at the top level it pretty much is tbh just the fact you went there will "open doors" then there is the chunk of them that are just selective schools which charge fees and are the type you have been highlighting.

Yup. That is precisely why i i wou save on the private tuitions.

I was lazy as **** and a private school education would have been wasted on me. In fact the **** you learn at school never really gets applied in the real world. Its more about thing outside the box and how you think.

Obviously a private school education will make you study more but i just don't think its that important imo. The only thing about private vs state is who they mix with and your kid falling off the rails imo.

The only other thing about private school it builds up your friends network in the old boys club.

I think what you're saying applies more to public not private school, such as the old boys club thing. You're also completely overlooking girls in this debate. There is no female equivalent of old boys club.

I respect your opinion on this but I'm also wondering whether or not you have children. If you don't, your view may change once you do. You could find that the local state school is awful but the local private school is offering scholarships and you can get a free place. Then you will be really tested especially if your child is begging for the private school.

I wanted the very best education for my children, what they did with it was then up to them.

No children yet but not sure i will change on the cost thing.

If i wanted them to get a really good education and be studying all the time i would take them to hk and have them work there asses off over there (although hk is currently going to ****!)

Nobody's actually asked me but just to be clear, my children didn't go to private school.

I would have had no problem sending them to one though.

I was State school educated but have used private (fee-paying) schools for both my kids at certain periods of their education, mainly as it was easier to get them what they required when they both came to the UK.

Think they have an important role to play and are also an important source of income, with many overseas students. Often these students go on to University education in UK so schools serve a useful role in that respect.

Think however that in order to retain charitable status they should be made to take at least 20% of their intake in the form of scholarships for underprivileged students. If they don't want to do that they pay normal ground rents/rates and taxes.

Could you access Weed at private schools?

Did you get girls called Sharon or Tracey in private schools?

    Them’s the real questions

Cigs and girls called Elizabeth/Rebecca etc never quite cut it for me.

I know quite a lot of people who went to private school. I've asked them about it before and the general consensus is the best thing about it is that:

    1) You meet loads of people from all round the world from a young age
    2) There is a big emphasis on getting you involved in sport/activities
    3) You are basically programmed to pass exams, one of them was lazy as **** and barely did anything but still ended up with a load of As just because he was sat in the classroom being taught how to pass the exams.
    4) You make connections that will last a lifetime and potentially help you down the line, another guy goes off round the world farely regualrly and seems to always know someone "from school" in every ****er he visits, let alone the standard old boys club everyone knows about

Virtually all of them, at some point at least, were pretty majorly into drugs. That also seems a common theme. Makes sense I suppose 14/15/16 year olds with a fair amount of cash from their parents (especially if the kid was living at the school), what else would you spend it on apart from grade and bags?
