Both of mine went to a fee paying prep school up until year 6, as the two well respected local schools were always oversubscribed. The closet of the 2 was a C of E school and favoured children who were confirmed and the other was 3+ miles away. The local school closet to my home had a dreadful reputation and had recently had an improvement notice served on it. For a number of years the staff turnover was ridiculous.
I was in a fortunate position that I could afford the choice and most parents want to give their children the best start possible.

It sucks mate, but it's just the way it is. I don't begrudge people with money as some seem to do.

I wouldn't say I'm against private education but I don't necessarily think I would put my lad there even if I had the means.

School, and espescially secondary, is vital for developing social skills as well as education. I think you'll meet and interact with children from all walks of life more at a public school rather than a private one.

I'm not hugely motivated by money tbh. Obviously I enjoy having it but as long as I can pay my bills, look after my boy and have a bit of leisure money, I'm happy. Helps that I'm not one for material **** like newest TV or console etc.

They're trying to make apply for a better paid job at work at the moment but I ain't having it cos I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing at the moment.

The secondary school my son has just started at is very academically selective. Some parents sacrifice a lot financially to send their kids there. Obviously they still have to be able to pay the fees but one thing we liked about it was how diverse it is in comparison to the “traditional” private schools, which I’d never send my kids to. The school he went to before that was ****. I couldn’t stand the other parents, hated the Surrey bubble and couldn’t wait for him to leave. It was a waste of money. He’d have done just as well at the nearest state school which is excellent. Too late now!
