Some fans are idiots, not all.

And we’ve been through the Sir Bobby issue recently as well.

Thing is, Bruce is very clearly trying to evolve Rafa's system. Given key injuries, he is having to play the likes of Atsu which makes this difficult. Yesterday was very ugly, but I say again, 5 of the starters yesterday will be warming the bench for most of the season.

Not if we keep having injuries and injury prone players.

    Dubravka

    Schar
    Lejeune
    Dummett

Yedlin (though I have no problem with Manquillo who tries his best, I just feel we desperately need more speed/energy there)
Hayden (wouldn't be someone I'd want to rely on long term but our best holder at present - tell him just to keep it simple, 5 yd balls)
    Longstaff
    Willems

    Almiron
    Saint-Maximin
    Joelinton

Personally the sooner we can get that on the pitch for a consistent period, the better our results will be. No point in hiding from it though, yesterday was just as worrying as day 1 in a different way. Of course you need to respect all the teams, they are in the league for a reason. However you must also have a plan of action how you are going to go about securing your first 40 points. If the idea is to play tight counter attack against the top sides, hurrying back into your shape as quickly as possible, not worrying about pressing in numbers, I understand. If it is then your policy to do that at home against Brighton, I'm afraid you are asking for trouble. You'll never get the fans behind you, and you will ensure games remain tight for the whole season against sides you need to beat your fair share of to stay up. That means they can go either way and you are playing roulette a little. Rafa did this at times but he delivered. Bruce will have to do likewise with this tactical approach and I'm not sure he has the acumen to pull it off.

The other thing that concerned me greatly yesterday was the physical preparation for the game. I don't know if they over trained, didn't do enough ball work, but its a long time since I've seen a NUFC side look so lethargic and uncomfortable in possession. When we did press, it was one guy. Eventually Almiron and Joelinton gave up pressing because no one was following them in. All Shelvey, Hayden, Atsu, Willems were interested in was getting back into banks of 4. Clearly this instruction was coming from Bruce and coaches as they were out ushering them back. Absolutely soul destroying to watch at home, so I can't imagine how the forward players felt playing in it isolated from the rest of the game.

Yesterday wasn't very smart. Rafa was a boring bastard in terms of how his teams played football. However his teams were smart, they were well prepared with clear direction. Bruce appears to be a boring bastard with no clear plan at times, not very smart, and at times horribly prepared physically. We can't afford to throw in games like this every few games. We've fared better at times than I expected and he needs 10-15 games. The bad ones though have thrown up some very worrying habits.

Brighton are ****s to me cos they printed champions scarves the year we won the championship. I bought one as a momento of how arrogant they were.
So **** them. **** them all.

I agree with Pouchy's back 6 and have more confidence with Hayden than others. I would not be adverse to trying Willems in front of or instead of Dummett, but left wing has to be ASM. Ritchie with Yeldin all day long. I'm just not seeing Longstaff in the middle yet, and would suggest something a bit left field if it isn't Shelvey either. Which brings us to Joelintion or Carroll, and Ki, who I think currently offers much more team potential than Almiron.
If Carroll plays, then you play your most consistent crossers of the ball, I think the same applies to Joelinton.

Bruce hasn't got the remotest clue about 'tactics'. He's from the Souness school of management. We might as well just go 4-4-2, it's all he understands.

    Dubs

    Yeds Schar Lasc Willems

    Ritchie Hayden Longstaff Max

    Joel Carroll

This back 9 bollocks isn't working anymore. As I said, the opposition have it clearly worked out; they can play for 90 minutes with 7 attackers vs our 9 defenders, knowing our counter attack is useless and we surrender possession. It's basic maths.

We need to be considerably further up the pitch. Switching to a 4-4-2, that's almost a 4-2-4, means we can get it, pass it and take the ball forward. Even if we have to lump it, we've got two lads who can hold it up. Hayden/Longstaff are box-to-box, options from the bench in Almiron, Atsu, cover in Lejeune, Dummett, Ki.

You could go 4-2-3-1 for tougher games and drop Almiron into the hole behind Joelinton or Carroll. But i think three at the back is wasting an attacking position and forcing us into 5-4-1.

I can't involve Shelvey or Ki in my football team. Shelvey was a disgrace on Saturday. If it was down to over training maybe, but he literally stood in the centre circle all game. He never once made any attempt to pressure the ball and give some movement. Ki is a waste of space for me. Doesn't want to tackle or run around. Never gets close to anyone. Like Shelvey tidy enough with the ball, but neither does anything for the team. A few world cup balls is all you get from them. Longstaff has mountains to learn but I'd be looking at him and his brother purely on energy and getting close to the other team. If you stand and watch them, you'll never see the ball in the PL.
