I’m on the same page mate. The biggest frustration being that when we press teams we look very decent and oppo really struggle with us.

It’s like under Bruce ain’t it. He wasn’t a bad manager and we weren’t a bad size for the (then much higher) level, but we hit a rut and he got a fear of losing that he never shook off.

Plan A for me is still to swap some of the dross for quality in January and stick with Ross, seems a decent bet to me that we'd go up automatically as we're not far off now.

It all depends where we are in the league though obviously, if we're nowhere near then I'd expect him to be gone way before then.

The issue being if we drop back and it’s too late to put it right in January.

It’s a challenging position mate, that’s why opinion is so split. If we stick and we continue to falter we won’t be in touch, we are already 5 behind Ipswich.

I haven't answered the question because the question lacks depth and a consideration of the realities of the situation. You want to simplify the problems to everything being the fault of the manager.

While I agree with Saffy to a certain extent that different managers will utilise the same players in different ways, studies have demonstrated (and you can Google this if you like) sacking a manager makes almost no difference. Interestingly, if the manager resigns, there is a huge difference, so maybe that's what you should hope for.

The other thing is, Jack Ross won't have to get this set of players competing and moving up the table. He should be able to change the squad to some extent in January. Of course, that means that there needs to be some improvement in the recruitment.

It's a gamble either way, innit? I suppose appointing a manager, or backing him, is always a gamble in football though. I think that's why we need people with a good background in football advising the new owners (and I don't mean Sam Allardyce). I think Stewy D has is head screwed on about that kind of stuff but you'd hope the bigger money would allow them to bring others in to the mix. The worry is that, like Ellis, they'll get the wrong ones in and be poorly advised.

Don't be daft, you're just avoiding the question.

The 'realities' are that we have a manager and this squad of players ...

... do you believe he'll get them playing competitively and into the top two?

You either think he will or he won't.

But those aren't the realities are they? You're playing with hypotheticals. None of us can know what is going to happen.
You say that the next manager has to have 'backbone' which, by implication, suggests that you don't think Jack Ross has 'backbone'. I would consider that to be an assessment of the situation only at a very basic level and not based in fact but personal perception.
I think that he is a good manager and I am willing to explore the reasons why we're not top of the league at the moment.

You're saying it's not reality that we have a manager and a squad of players ...
.... well it is in most people's reality <laugh>

<laugh> very good! You have taken something that I wrote and tried to apply an alternate meaning to it.
Anyway, just in case, like I have said previously, there are more variables than that and a lot of things that will happen behind the scenes that we are not privy to. I like talking about football and football tactics. That is why I am trying to elevate the debate to something above "Is Jack Ross ****? Yes or No?" Because that isn't very interesting.

Clearly not what I'm asking, especially as I've repeated it twice.

You can twist it any way you choose but you're obviously just avoiding a straightforward question ...

... and just as obviously one you're incapable of answering.

I'll take it as a 'no'.

    Twisting! <laugh>
I've been perfectly straight forward. I think it's more complicated than your questions implies.
You can take it as whatever you like!

We can we win the division with Ross or come 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th etc

Atm too early to be definite we are out of it, but the signs are not looking good, but not disastrous either

It isn't, you're just making it more complicated because you're afraid of giving an opinion on a particular scenario.

There are endless complications but not to that specific question.

You're just inventing fictional facts like 'Ross may or may not have wanted/signed these players' because it's the only way you can sustain a feeble argument.

Said we should move MacGeady into the middle weeks ago, he could be hugely influential, he has all the attributes he will see more of the ball and he can score goals. Play a 4/4/1/1 formation with this team
    JMc__O'Nien / Ozzy / Willis / DBok__Gooch / Embleton / Dobson / Maguire___MacGeady____McNulty or Grigg.
a bench of youth and experience from whats left.
And spend some money this window on 4 or 5 first team players, mid field a priority and 10m should see us promoted from this league imo.

Why would I be afraid of giving an opinion?! I'm quite happy to give my opinion on football despite what anyone on here might think, which I think I've demonstrated repeatedly.
Neither am I inventing things. I am stating what I know to be fact- which is that there are factors involved in the job of football manager which the fans don't understand or appreciate. I've offered some suggestions as to what I think may have gone wrong.
If you think my argument is feeble then we're even aren't we? Because I think your argument is feeble and is devoid of any deeper thought.

From the BBC report on their draw at Newcastle ....

"Brighton are a completely different side under Graham Potter than they were under Chris Hughton despite having most of the same players."

So all opinions, including yours, are meaningless, so why do you do it ...
... or do you believe you know better than other people <doh>

I've asked you for an opinion on whether you believe Ross can get these players into the top 2.

You won't give an opinion because you're afraid to.

<laugh> and you think I'm inventing stuff!!
I've given you my opinion on Jack Ross, I answered your question in the first instance.
You keep living in your fantasy world and I'll keep discussing football

You haven't answered the question, you just keep avoiding it.

    Here it is again ....

.... "Are you confident that Ross will get these players competing and move us up the table?"
