Pete's response was amusing, despite his account not having a restrriction on it this last week or two.....he suddenly decides to post when the politics thread is removed. Hence highlighting, people only turn up to cause trouble.

You talk as if personal insults were the sole preserve of the Politics thread. That’s ridiculous!..

There are no new levels for insults on this board. I’ve seen as bad and worse in some of the spats on here. And not on the Politics thread either!
Was racism and calling each other nonces regular occurrences on this board pre that thread? The answer is no.
Try looking at some of the things Matth gets called, for starters. He’s been called a nonce and worse!

That's it in a nutshell. The very thing that was the problem, it was only the leavers to blame for the problems on the thread. Because remainers would always agree with alternate views, and acknowledge other people's points, even if they didn't agree, they would never try and belittle or devalue opposite opinions. No sireeee.

So long before is mid march before the referendum and on the United board? Fair enough though I'll give you that one.
The point is before that thread although this board is unmodded we had unwritten rules which people generally adhered to and brb very rarely needed to step in.
Then the politics thread comes in and people pick their sides and the insults spiral between both sides with people getting more and more personal and more people complaining to brb as a result.
It then normalises that behaviour and encourages other like minded people to act in that way.
Would you have ever gone to the effort of creating fake twitter accounts mimicking another poster over a football argument?
So if someone is of a lessor intelligent than yourself, you think that is a good excuse to insult them. Sorry mate, I didn't realise people needed degrees to post on a football forum.
