Adrian and the Stanton Drew druids always celebrate the equinoxes on the nearest Saturday, to get more people along. The solstices are, of course, celebrated on the proper days. And this is by no means a time for depression: a time for reflection on the passing of summer certainly, and a time to look forward to the cleansing of winter and the renewal of springtime.
I just had a look at my photo of sunrise on the Summer Solstice at the same place, and it’s amazing how much further South the sun is today. I know the astronomical data says it must be so, but actually seeing it for yourself is something else. Hopefully there will be a visible sunrise at the Winter Solstice so I can have a record of the complete annual arc described by the sun.
For me, the urge to sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is always just a whim away... ...a whim away, a whim away, a whim away, a whim away.
I have a very big uninterrupted sky outside my SSE facing back garden. There is a line of trees and structures about half a mile away, but they are pretty much the same height as my window. During June I can't see the Sun rising when I look out of the bedroom window, because it is so far to the NE and it also sets correspondingly NW. During December it rises practically in front of me and sets almost within sight if I lean out of the window. I have thought about making a sundial for the wall several times.
I subscribe to the Youtube channel, Just Have A Think. [<-link] Today, apart his usual weekly climate aware videos the host later shared a music video composed by Michael Baumgard which consisted of setting some of the key words in sppeches made by Greta Thunberg. All we ask is that you Like and Share the video in any way you can to raise awareness. Also, if you want to buy the track off iTunes or Google Play, the links are in the video or at the JHAT channel on YT. Have a look and a listen. Cheers:
That is quite brilliant. Greta Thunberg is one hell of a person, to keep fighting for change, especially for one so young. Total respect for her.
Wow. Just wow. What an incredible young woman. Actually made me feel emotional and embarrassed to be an adult. We need to keep this planet going for her and her children and their children. We do not want to be the generation that lost the world.
Shouldn't this be in the politics thread? Only joking What a speech from someone so young she could teach the so called politicians a thing or two
One for TSS .... after your post re the MG EV, I went to look and test drive one. Sadly it wasn’t there so my girlfriend drive the petrol one. She was impressed, but we’ve been doing done figures and I’m very pleased to say that today she went down and put a deposit on the EV version Thanks, TSS!!
