Well he never, really made it with anyone after he left us, IMO without Bechio doing the work he struggled, loved the guy, but often went missing.
I think the Prem was a step too far for him, but he at least got a taste of it..I personally didn't like the way in which he left the club. But that all history now. He did give us some great moments though..
Remember doing a load of stats on JB at the time and factually he scored lots of goals but needed at least 3 more chances to score than the top scorers in L1 and Championship at the time. Rickie Lambert and Grant Holt for example were more prolific, however when Moyes invested in JB for Everton he decided to play JB as a winger instead of a striker. He didn't get much of a chance but being an instinctive striker he scored some worldies. If JB had time he wasnt that good but when he had no time to think he was awesome
I always remember we played 3rd and 4th place millwall and Swindon near the end of our league one promotion year, think we lost both home games by 3 and we played them both with 10 men, with Beckford doing nothing, he was booed off and got dropped from the team, brought back and redeemed himself by scoring the goal that took us up.
One to keep our eyes on but Wolves the club that bought their way out of the Championship may be in financial trouble. Wolves are owned by the Chinese Company "Fosun" who own 49% of Thomas Cook which is about to go bankrupt
What didn't you like about the way he left the club? SHOCKER - Bates treated him very poorly and the contract offer was disgraceful!
Bates iffered him a contract extension but on the same money, which was a joke because JB had earned a contract and pay rise. Bates just wanted him to hand a transfer request in which would mean the whole fee would go to Leeds/Bates. Newcastle and Everton were battling for his signature and £10m minimum was offered so Bates was rubbing his hands However JB decided to run his contract down and then walk on a free. This decision hurt Bates which was good but also hurt the fans because Grayson got no cash. JB got a great pay rise but we got no replacement cash
I doubt Grayson would have got the money anyway. If Bates got any money it stuck. If money was spent it belonged to someone else.
