I like a lot off punk, but never got the hype

 

How old are you? I was 16 and leaving school in 1977, when it was all kicking off. Saw the Damned at Southampton Uni, and the world changed forever...hid all my Hawkwind and Led Zep albums under the bed, cut my hair, ditched the flares for a pair of drainpipes...

 

The Damned never really got the recognition they deserved imo. One of the most in-your-face live acts I've ever seen.

 

I didn't leave till 84 mate.

 

This lot were pretty unique at the time. Poor old Poly Styrene had a few problems, but she had a beautiful soul I think.

I’ve listened to Sam Fender’s debut album twice today and yesterday, It’s the best album I’ve heard this year.

 

Got beaten up by Teddy Boys on the Isle of Wight, after persuading the DJ in a Rock n Roll club to play this track. He said he'd only play it if we promised to dance to it, so me, my mate and these two birds we met did...and I got a proper kicking, while my mate scarpered.

Still a great tune...

This is quite an interesting look back at the late 70s era...

 

finally, a decent bit of punk.

 

All that came later. Punk was a very short lived period, by the end of the 70s it was all over as far as a lot of the original punks were concerned.

You never saw a Mohican til the early 80s, by which time Punk as I remember it was dead and buried.
