Started the match thread early this week, if only to give us something to talk about Good to see Birmingham have sold out their 3,100 allocation. Will we get our first 20,000 plus home attendance of the season on Saturday as a result ?
I'll be missing this one due to being en route to Guernsey for a week, but FHB jnr will be occupying my seat, and will send me a report to go with the Not606 report. We don't appear to have picked up any injuries, so the team should be unchanged. Who should play RB?
I doubt there will be an official 20,000+ attendance, and I'm pretty sure there won't actually be 20,000 fans in the Valley. I predict an official attendance between 17,000 and 18,000; (real attendance maybe 14,500 home fans plus the full away end). That's pretty respectable compared to the last few seasons, but I think the missing ingredient for really bumper home crowds is anticipation of something better. Charlton have started really well, but in the back of the minds of most fans may lurk the fear that this great form can't continue. So although confidence and expectations may publicly be high, secretly many folks are bracing themselves for a correction to mid-table. It's far too early in the season to have realistic hopes of a play-off place. If that chance is still there in March then I think fans will cram in and push Valley attendances well over 20,000.
By the way, my prediction for the match is 2-2. First time I've gone with anything other than a Charlton win so far this season.
Birmingham are one of the many Jekyll & Hyde teams in this league ...they beat Barnsley 3-0, and Barnsley are the only team who have given us a chasing so far this season.
Brentford hit the woodwork three times against Brum who had one shot on target and only 32% possession. 3-1 for me.
First game since Blackburn away for me, have missed The Valley. This is the first game I've gone into this season genuinely thinking we will win, which doesn't bode well. Really exciting few weeks coming up
Quite a lot of Charlton fans on social media are saying that tomorrow will be their first game of the season. I predict an attendance of between 19,000 and 21,000.
Plastics... (only joshing) Seriously though, what's wrong with the August games? Can't believe masses of the fan base are just on holiday.
Has always been the case. When we were getting sell outs in the Premier League there would be countless seats empty.
