I suggest you pick a cinema with comfy seats because that film is loooong. It’s ****ing brilliant though. DeCaprio in particular, is superb. Lots of interesting cameos too. The mood really changes about 2/3 of the way through, one minute you’re watching a comical buddy movie with a few disturbing observations about Hollywood and the price of fame - then you’re watching something else entirely, something very ugly, but still through the Hollywood lens.
Which True Grit? The Coen bros version is one of the best remakes of an original in Hollywood history imo.
My overall favourites would be: Das Boot Terminator 2 Gladiator Battle of Britain The Bourne Identity Cast Away Saving Private Ryan A Bridge Too Far Platoon The Shawshank Redemption
You no what I don't think I've ever actually seen The Longest Day which is a bit strange really as I've watched tons of war films! Battle of the Bulge I didn't rate than highly if I'm honest. Prefer other war films like The Cruel Sea and Dunkirk (the original). I do enjoy other genres but I can't think of many that are top of my list. Scarface should maybe be on my list. Goodnight Mr Tom! Forest Gump. You?
hmm, hard one, depends what mood I'm in at the time, some favourites that aren't already in your list: King solomon's mines (the 1950 version with Stewart Grainger, such a beautifully shot film) The Matrix Life of Brian MP Holy Grail The Usual Suspects Aliens The Emerald Forest (again, the scenery is amazing) Carlito's Way The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Silent Running. Ace in the Hole. Star Wars should probably be on there, but I can't help seeing it through an adults eyes these days. Edge of Tomorrow might make it onto that list, but it;s a bit new atm, so I don't know whether it will stand the test of time to me, like star wars hasn't. Edit: compiling this list has led me to downloading the good, the bad and the ugly. 3:10 to Yuma was pretty good too, and Scarface with Pacino is essentially a remake. Keep meaning to find a copy of the original to watch, it's one of the films that caused the code to be properly enforced, a was banned in a few places.
Von Ryan's Express Where Eagles Dare The Eagle has Landed The Great Escape 4 of my favourite war films..
