He still had 18months on his contract. We didn't need to swap for the village idiot morison.

She will get back to us, as soon as she can find an abacus that does millions.

She’s still trying to work out that 52% is bigger than 48%

    Sorry, wrong thread <whistle>

Yes but wasn't that because Warnock told him he wasn't part of his long term plan. Regardless ,getting Morison in a swap was awful business, I think every including Morison, other than Warnock thought it was a bad deal.

For the first time in years I find myself reflecting on this. Bringing in Morison was a mistake. No doubt about that. But Becchio leaving? I was always upset about that, but when you look at his post-Leeds record, perhaps Colin was a little bit more astute than we thought he was. Well, until he brought in Morison, that is! Seriously, though, perhaps his assessment of Becchio was spot on, because he never, ever proved otherwise elsewhere.

Cooper and Dallas both signed new long term contracts.

I think sometimes certain players are a certain fit, Becchio here was 1 of those.

Aye, if only Becchio had realised that. That's agents for you.

Idaguchi was bought for £400k and sold for £1m to the same club we bought him from? So double the money and think this was always the plan and why we never used him just sent him on loan. Guessing money laundering involved<laugh>

Ekuban also sold for double the money

Deal done on Sacko's contract so we ended up slightly in front

Fantastic news about Dallas and Cooper but can someone explain to me why 4 and 5 year contracts given. Phillips I get and his value will increase but how much will Dallas and Coops be worth because we could end up lumbered with them like LDB if we get promoted. Are these long term contracts a way of keeping the wages down but length of contract to them guarantees more money in the long run?

Well said Doc. Cooper is limited but Bielsa is making sure he plays to his strengths

Think they are squad players for the Premier league.Obviously Bielsa has confidence they can do that, not sure I do but if the king says so, who are we mere mortals to argue.

Okay, so here's my view. I think / hope the club have taken a pragmatic view and hedged their bets.Give them contracts, factor in promotion / relegation clause on wages. We stay up the players are laughing. we go down we have proven championship players on decent wages to try for promotion again.

If we go up, we will have to heavily recruit.

This means we will keep our best players and unfortunately get rid of most others.

To award 4 and 5 year contracts to Dallas and Cooper is ludicrous.

I think you can sometimes haggle the annual salary down a bit for a longer contract. Maybe that helps with ffp. There’ll be promotion and relegation clauses.

Just seems at least a year too long for both of them - they’re 28. Cooper will be 33 at the end of his deal.

Victor must be on a cut.

We wouldn't be giving 4 and 5 year deals without Bielsa thinking they have a roll to play or they arent on big money and Bielsa thinks he can sell easy enough

Initially I agreed with what you posted but then I decided to give it a moments contemplation before responding.

    Perhaps we should consider this;

Bielsa inherited a large squad of senior professionals and immediately instigated a cull. Those that remained were asked to conform to a completely new form of professionalism which involved a dramatic shift from the usual 2 hours training followed by afternoons at their leisure.

One season on and every player that now remains (think about who has left) has dramatically changed not only his training habits but also body fat ratio and indeed undergone a lifestyle change to adapt to the demands of a coach who is inspirational but also the toughest of taskmasters.

Maybe they have actually earn't those new contracts.

I think you make a good point there jammy. Part of that also means, for parents, which cooper and Dallas are, being kept away from their families even before home games.

They might be grateful for the peace and quiet... but my understanding is that not all of bielsa’s ways are universally loved. Some of his views on training and fat percentage are left field. Players want to have a successful career and play for a successful club, I’m sure they all appreciate playing for a renowned coach... but it comes with sacrifices.

I don't think Phillips 5 year contract is everything that most see.

Phillips had a clause inserted if we don't get promoted, that doesn't sound like someone who is Leeds United through and through.

If Phillips agent had his way, Phillips would be playing in prem now, it would be one of his agents big paydays, if not the biggest. There's more to this contract than meets the eye.

Phillips had an opportunity to play in prem, but didn't take it, most would've. Prem league, playing with/against bigger name players/teams, possibility of playing in Europe, England chance increased (if any) big fat weekly wages, a big cut of the transfer fee, big possible chance to become known around world. He shunned it all, question is, why?

He would've certainly enjoyed his attention as he can't take his eyes off camera when he walks out the tunnel..

Phillips didn't shun everything cos he's Leeds through and through, his inserted clause now shows that, nor is there a guarantee we'll be promoted.

Phillips price tag would've dropped dramatically after prem teams backed off, a 5 year contract would've increased it again slightly. Phillips 30m price tag only came about cos Leeds tried to get as much for him as they could, if a team was going to pay it, Leeds would've took it; reality says Phillips ain't worth 30m, or anything close.

Imo Phillips ain't that good in championship, but everyone knows that already. In the prem, Phillips would've been torn to shreds and found out against most teams. I think Phillips knew that and he was crapping himself, so took the easier option for him.

Wood isn't doing too well goal wise, Cook wasn't, but either has a long term injury, or can't make bench most games.
