Yes, this is the effectively the same as what I was proposing, though I suggested one vote on two questions. It makes little practical difference which way you do it.

Under the STV system there is usually not 2 rounds of voting, though, but one round with first and second choices picked at the outset.

And you and Freddd seriously think the general public are capable of understanding this and voting on it?

That we'll end up with an accurate picture?

You both need to stop pouring vodka instead of milk on your cornflakes <laugh>

The problem stems from re-running votes that shouldn't be re-run of course, that's why an overly complicated voting system is required to manipulate, sorry re-run, the vote.

Let me get this straight: you are now citing the stupidity of the electorate as a reason to regard the referendum result as inviolable? Have I got that right ?

Trouble is a slightly more complicated voting process, or an actual definition of what leave would mean should have been sorted before the vote which would have stopped the need for a re run as people would have known what they were going to get.
It was a ridiculously simplistic vote for something that was far from simple.

Also, even today I had a friend sharing something on facebook that was spouting complete nonsense about the EU giving grants for businesses to relocate from the UK to other EU countries. It's ****e like that that made some people, I'm not suggesting all, vote leave. They then turn around and say "don't tell me I didn't know what I voted for".
There are probably loads of leavers that voted leave for actual legitimite reasons but not the people I know personally and I'm guessing there are many many more who have been duped and given how close the vote was and the time that has elapsed since then surely another vote is reasonable?

Returning to the subject of this thread, he will go down as the briefest PM in history. When the opposition decide to call an election, that will be the end of BJ.

One man's uninformed opinion obviously but I doubt this will come back to bite me.

That needs to be taken with a large pinch of salt. I'm pretty sure you can be on a zero hours contract and be classed as employed whether you are getting any hours or not.

It hasn't happened but the remoaners, the financial experts and all those supposedly in the know said we were set for a significant downturn in this regard because of the threat of Brexit not just when it happens. The theory being that the uncertainty would result in people not employing anyone and everything would just freeze. The positive data has cooled somewhat since June in their defence but it basically turns out they were wrong. Badly.

Of course they are now back pedalling quicker than an italian army to claim that it is unfathomable and they stand by their Brexit predictions. I can see why people are starting to think the doom and gloom merchants have somewhat selfishly over egged the pudding. I go back to the same thing. This situation requires people to leave their egos and selfish attitudes at the door to what is best. Unfortunately the remoaners and remain press have been unable to accept the vote and do that. Now we have the leave support responding in kind. That will be rubbished by remoaners as their protestations have been rubbished by leavers. Its a mess and its wrong to suggest the blame lies solely at the door of either party. I've heard it said that the responsibility for all this lies firmly with Boris, May and the conservatives. I suggest those people sew up their arsehole because they clearly have somewhere else for the **** to come out of.

Hmm but that would be the same before Brexit was announced surely? So then it has no impact in assessing the impact Brexit or the threat of it has had.

I'm not sure we ever will now. Even if Brexit happens, it looks like the remoaners will dilute it down so those who voted to leave are going to be left disappointed. You only have to look at Tom Watson, deputy for labour party. He is still spouting that Labour should be focusing all of its efforts on reversing Brexit via a referendum. Its laughable that such senior figures are still flagrantly ignoring the vote of three years ago to suit their own agenda. That is where the major problem has always lay. The majority of parliament don't want what the British people asked for and refuse to accept the vote.

I do think the people should never have been asked personally. I'm not sure what we pay those lot for if they are incapable of doing their job.

Problem is once you ask, you simply must enact their decision to respect the democracy of this country. Unfortunately that vote went the way it did. So yes that could be seen as the catalyst. But then so could 46 years of public discontent about being part of the EU.

As I say those trying to divide up the blame are wasting their time. Its too widespread.
