Not the flashiest player but he came up with some big, big goals and his presence was always missed when he wasn't playing.

The Sunderland game was the one that got my son into football / first game I took him too

Now he spends more time on his PS4 if only he put the commitment into his real game ...

One of my favourite football days .Our first ever competitive victory against Liverpool and the 3 points they failed to get contributed to them not winning the league . Well done David Meyler and good luck in the future .

A player who always gave 100% commitment, a very good clubman and I think genuinely cared for the club. All the best for the future David.

Good luck to Meyler, maybe he will try his hand at E Sports now. He had his best game against Germany for Ireland playing at right-back, the best one with us was the FA Cup match v Sunderland as others said, also it was my birthday that day!

I couldn't understand why only a few years ago he was world class for ROI in qualifiers, and as soon as he returned to us was ****e and quickly dropped. The only reasons were A) didn't give a toss about City B) injury.
    It all makes sense now.
    Main memories;
    • Incredible heart. that's the abiding memory. When he was playing badly, he didn't try to hide, unlike most players. So sometimes the target of the boo boys, but he didn't give a ****,
    • Incredible energy levels
    • Massive role in our FA cup run
    • Fantastic professional and role model
    • At the end of his city career, he started producing world class performances ( MOM in massive games) for ROI as a holding midfielder, which he'd never played before.
    • Seems a decent fella away from football (unusual for a footballer)
    • Probably in my top ten of post Brown era

I could never understand those that called David Meyler ****, I assumed they either didn't understand football or were partially sighted. He was what every team needs a midfielder that did the hard yards, and allowed players like Tom Huddlestone to play their game. Truly a great servant to Hull City AFC.and I am sure his best memories will come from playing for us. Good luck in whatever he does next, as I am sure whatever it is he will give his all, and with humility.

    Courtesy of top from ci
From the 2016 season I believe.

    City league record so far
    P 41 W 21 D 10 L 10 F 56 A 29 Pts 73 Win ratio 51.22% Goals per game 1.366, points per game 1.780

    Without Meyler
    P 16 W 3 D 7 L 6 F 17 A 17 Pts 16
Win ratio 18.75% Goals per game 1.063, points per game 1.000

With Meyler (all games, including sub appearances)
    P 25 W 18 D 3 L 4 F 39 A 12 Pts 57
Win ratio 72.00% Goals per game 1.560, points per game 2.280

If you think any team can afford to omit a player whose presence (if nothing else) quadruples the win ratio, adds half a goal per game, and more than doubles the points per game, I'm happy for you to consider me mad.

Got slagged off when his form dipped, perhaps due to a combination of injuries, but his report card should state: 100 percenter and effective as a hard working, hard tackling midfielder who scored some very important goals and was a bit of a cult hero in his time...
    Good luck Dave...

A shame injury has cut short his career, at 30 he should have at least one decent contract left in him. I also think he's one of those players that's as important to have around in the dressing room as on the pitch - motivation and inspiration.

Thanks Dave, wish you every success with whatever comes next.

Think one of his most important roles was when he came on at 2-0 down against derby in the play off semi final
Plugged the gaps brilliantly and made the game safe for us after we were all over the place.

Strange that because I saw him in Cottingham petrol station at 7.15 last night buying some milk.
Definitely him because he was in his black Merc M33YLR
