Full list of Bristol City contracts, when they expire and the decisions that need to be made We look at the contract status for every player on the club's books Taylor Moore is the most recent player among Lee Johnson's first-team group to have signed a new contract, securing his future at Ashton Gate until 2021. But there are a number of others who become free agents within the next 12 months and who the Robins will soon need to make a decision on, in terms of their status. We cast our eyes over the contract situation of all 27 members of Johnson's squad this season plus some of the leading individuals currently out on loan in League One. 2020 Ashley Williams - in January but with option for extension Benik Afobe (loan) Pedro Pereira (loan) Callum O'Dowda Bailey Wright Korey Smith Niki Maenpaa Liam Walsh Niclas Eliasson - has one-year option If Williams is to remain a City player beyond January he will have to prove his fitness and aptitude over the next three months, while Afobe and Pereira are likely to be turned into permanent signings next summer if they continue to impress. O'Dowda's situation has been well-documented but, as it stands, it doesn't appear that the Republic of Ireland international wants to sign a new contract so could be sold in January to recoup some degree of a transfer fee for the 24-year-old. Korey Smith is a huge favourite of Johnson's and if he can recover from the foot injury when he returns in January definitely has a chance of extended his stay, which could also be true of club captain Wright who has an Achilles injury. Barring anything dramatic, City are expected to exercise that one-year option on Eliasson or could even extend it further with a new contract altogether. 2021 Famara Diedhiou Andi Weimann Josh Brownhill Jack Hunt Marley Watkins Hakeeb Adelakun Taylor Moore Rene Gilmartin Tommy Rowe Joe Morrelll Max O'Leary The three names at the top of this list will result in some meetings at Ashton Gate over the coming months. From Brownhill's perspective, unless Sheffield United, or another Premier League side, return with a credible bid for the midfielder this summer he simply has to be offered a new contract; he's too good not to. Weimann will turn 30 when his deal expires but is such a fit individual and arguably is improving with age, will likely remain in Johnson's first-team thinking, but the future of Diedhiou is an intriguing debate. He'll still only be 28 in the summer of 2021 so should have several years left in the tank but, as one of the team's highest earners, has now slipped down the pecking order and could, over the next 6-18 months fall further. Does that then lead City to try and cash-in on him next summer or do they still see him as part of their future? 2022 Adam Nagy Tyreeq Bakinson Sammie Szmodics - has one-year option With Nagy locked in for three years, City can look forward to at least two seasons of the Hungarian before any kind of contract questions become relevant. In the cases of Szmodics and Bakinson, they are yet to prove themselves at Championship level and are very much short to long-term projects. 2023 Tomas Kalas Jay Dasilva Han-Noah Massengo Dan Bentley Kasey Palmer Antoine Semenyo Saikou Janneh This is an extremely pleasing section for City fans, firsly because it contains the present and future of the club in terms of young talent but also a number of key assets in Dasilva, Massengo, Semenyo, Janneh and Palmer who, if their development continues as expected, could well become transfer targets for Premier League clubs. With significant time on their deals it ensures that City can maximise their value on any sales which either scares potentially suitors away or, worst-case scenario, significantly boosts any transfer fee received, as we saw in the case of Adam Webster. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/full-list-bristol-city-contracts-3294824
LJ said they were still holding conversations, I was merely pointing out after reading the article that the situation is no different and the clock is ticking.
It’s an odd one isn’t it?, it seems we offered him what he asked for only for him to turn it down. There doesn’t seem any bad feeling though as he still gets game time, the only thing I can think is he wants to start more often to stay in the Irish team, and we won’t guarantee it.
It certainly is, I think LJ has got him read, if he gets no movement from him he will be on his way quicker than he realises.
As long as his attitude is right he does offer options , we’ve got much better these last few years at this kind of scenario, but the players still hold a lot of the cards. Hopefully he either signs or moves in January.
he has a bad agent, his agent will not make money if he stays! It is a bit like chicken and egg with the prospect of greater international recognition if he gets the opportunity to play more … ! It must be in the back of his mind "don't get much game time .. should I SIGN and get more? maybe I would play better? etc etc …" he went down hill after not signing ….
On balance I’d get rid of him in the summer and if necessary replace him , he’s reasonable but not irreplaceable and even if he signs is likely to do the same next time.
Bloody agents need to be put back in their place especially as it's pretty obvious they often put false promises in their client's head solely to inflate their own egos and bank balance.
