And one we’d lose. No deal will set the UK economy back decades, maybe generations. Hundreds of individual trade deals to be ratified, the vast majority of which will be on worse terms than we get as a member of the EU. The currency will nosedive, kicking off inflation ( we are a net importer) and causing price rises across the board. I could write a page on why no deal is economic suicide.
But on the other hand, we'll be "free" of the "tyranny" of the EU The fact that ****wits like Ian Holloway blame the EU for the offside rule underlines the shocking levels of ignorance of people who believe this bilge
People of Wycombe, you have my sympathies Seriously, how ****ing dense does somebody have to be to write this drivel, let alone believe it
What "rush" ?? Over THREE YEARS. "I don't see any definite benefit to anyone other than the immediate popularity of a leader who will be celebrated in the right wing press. The rest of us get to live with the results, whatever they turn out to be." I see the "benefit" of showing the UK electorate that when asked to vote on an issue of this magnitude, and the turnout that ensued, that their decision will be respected, irrespective of the consequences. This has now turned into parliament vs the people, pure and simple. Just a follow-on from the usual gobsh*te privilege (TM) , and the utter contempt revealed by the MP expenses scandal. 500 odd pr*icks such as Grieve and Hammond voted to invoke "article 50" , when they knew full well the consequences of it if no agreement is reached. The people "did not know what they were voting for" . PATHETIC politnik speak from the losers. Yet some of the above are ON RECORD BEFORE the referendum about the WTO scenario, yet how many were telling their constituents the facts ?? Time to leave the EU, and in the event of WTO terms, for history to record the names of the 500 PIPES whose moron hubris set that outcome in motion,
For no real reason HERE is a video from April 2016 where PROMINENT member of the Leave campaigner Michael Gove at an official Vote Leave press conference where he clearly SAYS that the UK would REMAIN in the Customs Union if Leave won https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36074853 Can't think why I felt the NEED to provide evidence of the Leave campaign making a PROMISE that there has been no attempt to live up to, after all it isn't as if people were CLEARLY misled at any point and any CREDIBLE journalist would have spent the past three years reminding Gove of what he said, as that could be CONSTRUED as misleading the voting public on the eve of an ADVISORY referendum
So the latest brainwave from Dominic Cummings, as parroted by Andrew Marr this morning, is to position the next election as "parliament vs the people" Here's the problem with that: he's trying to position Alexander Boris De Pfeil Johnson as "the people" - which in turn looks like he was just cribbing Steve Bannon's homework In other news, not only are the Neolib Dems welcoming Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger and Angela Smith with open arms (and there's strong rumours that Heidi Allen will be unveiled at their conference) but they're parachuting them into constituencies that aren't the ones they've been squatting in since February, which doesn't do much for their talk of democracy...
Mourinho's at a loose end. He knows all about an easy exit from Europe. Moyes and van Gaal too. Have none of Boris' advisers consulted them?
Former PM, Theresa May went to the electorate seeking a parliament to enact a departure from the EU. That parliament is as valid a representation of the wishes of this country's electorate as a referendum vote to leave the EU under the constitution of the UK (such as it is). Despite any claims to the contrary, an elected Parliament is unfettered as to its power to pass laws and is not 'trumped' by the outcome of a referendum, no matter how much some might wish it so. The choice of the current elected assembly is not to leave without a deal with the EU. There is no constitutional impediment to Parliament coming to such a position and passing the law that has been passed to support that end. That reality may not suit hysteriacs and Brexit-bedwetters but it's indisputably truer than any word to have passed the lips of PM de Pfeffel Johnson, Farage et al. The referendum vote for leaving the EU was silent as to the method of departure and a simple majority of elected representatives choose how to fill in the existing gaps of this or any legislation, as they have done for centuries. If the Tory/UKIP/other right wing movement leadership wish to progress matters to their satisfaction, perhaps they should put in some effort to offer up something that meets the approval of the elected parliament and constitutional requirements of this nation? Until then, the hysteria from those who can't get their way is unsubstantiated and unsupported whining and of no substance.
That isn't the case as the specific proposals that Parliament have voted on have never been put to the people. Eg the electorate were assured by the Leave campaign that we would remain part of the free trade area in Europe. No such agreement is in place.
The official Leave campaign, fronted by the now PM Boris Johnson and his cabinet minister Michael Gove, no less.
Reverse cowgirl is a "position" and, by complete coincidence, a much better representation of the future than trying to portray Alexander Boris De Pfeil Johnson as "the people"
This is of course correct and it highlights why many people voted the way they did in the referendum. Our first fast the post system is not designed with democracy at the front. It is designed to produce 'stability' and ensure that it is extremely difficult to change the status quo. With the Blair government the difference between the two major parties narrowed to vanishing point, extinguishing what little power the votes of individuals actually counted for. This frustration felt by many voters in Britain was not addressed or part of any discussion for 35 years. Then people are asked to vote in a referendum with the resulting huge split we are now witnessing. The real need is to vote to leave Westminster which I hope Scotland will do in the not too distant future, but until first past the post is abandoned and a real democratic process is installed I would expect the unrest to continue. Especially as we leave Europe and the reasons we were in the EU in the first place become abundantly clear. The decline and fall of the British Empire is reaching it's final phase.
