Hello and welcome to the official match thread for Sunday's Premier League game between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

    Preview.

I'll start with the home team.

Spurs have had a mixed start to the season. They kicked off the season with a convincing 5-0 against the Scottish Premier League side Hearts. They then kicked off their league campaign but it hasn't gone to plan for Harry Redknapp's side. A 3-0 defeat to Manchester United and then a 5-1 loss to Manchester City. Between these two league games, they played Hearts again and got a 0-0 draw which meant that Spurs went into the Europa League group stages. Tottenham then travelled to an in-form Wolves side. A good performance resulted in a 2-0 victory for the North London side and got Spurs their first points of the league season. Yesterday, Tottenham travelled to Greece to take on PAOK Salonika. It was a young side with some debunats and younger players and that side came away with a 0-0 draw.

Liverpool have had a solid start to the season. A 1-1 draw on the first day of the season against Sunderland might not have been what the Liverpool fans were expected but Sunderland fully deserved the point they took back up to the north-east. A 2-0 victory away at Arsenal followed that game. Liverpool then travelled to St. James Parkt o take on Exeter in the Carling Cup. Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll with two of the Liverpool goals in a 3-1 victory for the Reds. A home game against Bolton followed. An excellent performance from Liverpool resulted in a 3-1 victory with goals for summer signings, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam. Liverpool then went to Stoke to face Stoke City. It was one of them days for Liverpool with countless chances but none could be put away. A goal in the 21st minute from Jon Walters sealed the three points for Tony Pulis and his side.

    Injury/Team News.

Liverpool's Glen Johnson has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury and misses out. Steven Gerrard is unlikely to be risked for this game and is instead expected to play against Brighton in the Carling Cup in midweek.

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart has a chance of retruning from injury, but William Gallas and Aaron Lennon are doubts. Ledley King faces a late fitness test, but Michael Dawson is definitely out.

    Tottenham Hotspur 0 - 0 Liverpool

Chris. Perhaps Paisley should have said, "If you're in the OPPOSITION penalty area", instead. Some of these footballers aren't the sharpest tools in the box! If you see what I mean. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I can see Liverpool playing a 4-2-3-1 against Spurs with Carroll leading the line. Therefore having a three of Hendo/Kuyt, Suarez and Downing to play freely behind. Much like City did against Spurs. You could see how Spurs couldn't handle having 4 forward players. Carroll is more than capable and I think the recent games being on the bench will remind him of how important putting the hard work is in.

The only difference would be that Spurs now have Parker, but as much as people rave about him, he is slow and Suarez' movement and speed would be too much for him. I can imagine him fouling Suarez alot and getting early yellow cards that would make Suarez' job easier as the game wore on. Plus Parker likes getting forward that would leave a big gap between defence and midfield that Suarez thrives in. Carroll can beat Dawson to anything high and hopefully play like he did against Man City last season.

    Just my thoughts.

You're forgetting Ledley King. I hope he plays, because Suarez spent most of last season's game at Anfield, in Ledley's pocket.

Very true, there is little doubt that if he plays he makes a huge difference. The problem being the 'if'. As everyone always says, if he has remained fit, he would have likely been and England regular for many years. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Spurs win ratio were alot higher with him in the team, any one for the stats?

Imagine a fit Ledley AND Woodgate! What a centre back partnership that would have made.

King always plays 2 of his 3 games a season against us. So he'll definitely be fit, I can guarantee it.

Probably best to give the Stella a rest on a Friday night for a while.

"In the last five seasons, Tottenham's win percentage with Ledley King starting (53%) is far superior than without him (34%). Regal."

Yeah. I can't see how you can argue that the Stoke one wasn't a penalty. I'd probably have given the first handball to Liverpool too, although it'd be a bit harsh.
