Morning all. Just had a shower of rain on a day when none was forecast. It only lasted about a minute and will not have been any real use. Had a letter from my electricity supplier to tell me that despite having permission to raise prices, it sees no need to do so, and my cost will remain as at present. Mme is in favour of getting a picture frame for it. Also received my council tax bill for the year. That has gone up, and I have to pay an additional €1 above what I paid last year. Enjoy your day whatever you intend to do.
Good morning.. Cooler but sunny here.. Prepping for our Auvergne trip tomorrow.. Mme has been up ladders pruning for the last couple of days.. Grapes look very good considering the drought..
Morning all. Bright and sunny, but the breeze is coming more from the north today keeping the temperature a little lower. The light bulb in the oven blew yesterday, and as it it the first time in twelve years I had no idea how to get behind the cover to change it. The manual tells me to take a narrow spoon handle and gently prise the cover off. I think the word gently is some form of joke, as despite my best efforts so far I haven't moved it. I will leave it for a while and try to think about a different approach. A hammer and chisel is ruled out. Enjoy your day whatever tribulations fall upon you.
Morning from Le Mont Dore. Which we just worked out is the source of the river Dore just upstream from where the river Dogne joins it and the two become one.. The Dordogne! Brain can be a bit slow at times! Had a heavy fondu meal last night and lots of local cheeses and meats.. A week of this diet too.... Good day one and all
Morning all. Some blue sky, but quite a lot of high non-rain bearing cloud above. The cucumbers are now spreading their way around the village and gratefully being received. It is good to share when you have a surplus, and it works well as we are given various fruit and vegetables when a neighbour has more than they can use. One of my neighbours had at the last count five freezers which she has won at various Lotto gatherings. Her husband reckons that she could have used the money spent buying her cards to have actually gone to the shop to buy them and still be in pocket. I think she enjoys the company as much as the winning. Enjoy your day whatever you plan to do.
I am not sure that I agree that any of them are strange. It is actually a very nice place to live, where we all look out for each other, share things between us, talk to each other, and forget that we happened to be born in four different countries. If that is strange I am quite happy to live with it.
All neighbours have a degree of strangeness about them SH. But if you live in a close community where everyone knows everybody else, and breaks bread with them regularly, then you get to know their strangenesses. In the home counties - where everyone has a large garden fence and wash their 3 cars at the weekend their strangenesses remain unobserved. We have some very strange neighbours, because all people have something strange about them - as the saying goes - the whole World's mad apart from me and thee and tha's a bit weird
In our area we all use the Eastern Europeans to clean our multi cars per household. I'm sure there are close communities everywhere, my village certainly qualifies. I have yet to come across anybody as strange as some of those highlighted in OFH's daily blog. I'm off to Spain again tomorrow, I will look out for similar Euro nutters!!.
Perhaps you would like to suggest which of my friends and neighbours you consider to be strange, because it might say more about you than them.
Doesn't it strike you that having more cars than you can actually drive, and not cleaning them yourself, comes over as decidedly odd to others (not to mention the Co2 emissions). Knocking up your carbon footprint even more with flights to Spain ?
Not with 3 people living in the house Paying to have your car cleaned in the UK is quite normal. Most people would think it is odd that it could be considered odd!! We like to support our less well off Eastern European friends who travel a long way to clean our cars. I'd better not tell you of my return trip to Halkadiki in October then. Can I say my Cologne friend who doesn't fly offsets my frequent flights?
3 people sharing a car doesn't seem odd to me at all - quite normal in fact. In fact I don't regard it as normal at all to see that in our clogged streets most cars have only one person sitting in them. As for off setting - I long for the day when we have an individual Co2 ID card where every flight is registered and it gets more expensive with each flight. We badly need a kerosene tax to hit cheap flying on the head - the fact that a flight from Cologne to Berlin is cheaper than the train makes my blood boil.
