This seems to be Remainer Fake News . Rees-Mogg has been confronted on many occasions about this, and has denied it. SCM in which he is an investor, but has no executive role, is based in London and Singapore.

If someone has hard evidence, produce it

I wish posters on here could see what is happening and been happening for the last two years not just little concerns like JRM’s hedge stuff.

Still we can all put on Dads Army and forget those funny old Yes Ministers.

Keep saying on here best place to sell anything to the blue flock is outside of the UK and inside the EU . Irony there is no one gives a **** about our own sheep farmers... sub standard anyway

What’s the bloody point? It will still be fake news to you anyway ... get those blinkers off
Yes it’s only JRM he is only doing what the city are doing anyway. Hope he dies soon

It’s the bigger fish that are aligned to make a killing . France is rubbing its hands in readiness just small initial tariffs across goods not cheese and wine will reap billions and attract more and more shareholders.

    It’s bloody going to happen

I want the tax codes of all Brexiteers doubled overnight ... you got it all wrong from day one And still the stubbornness flows

Surely you can see the point. If Remainers make up fake news, it undermines stuff that may be true. Remainers have been saying for years that Rees Mogg has an office in Ireland. He says he has not. And Remainers haven't produced any evidence - just social media smears.

There are Remain journalists like Cadwallader crawling all over the likes of Rees Mogg, Bob. If there was something to find, they would have found it by now. So certain people in the Remain camp resort to unproven smears. When anyone's personal reputation is demeaned, it's not unreasonable that the allegations are underpinned by some evidence. There's nothing on this Ireland office business. If it was true, it would be easy to prove

    Getting interesting now.....

Conservative MP Phillip Lee has defected to the Liberal Democrats ahead of a showdown between Boris Johnson and Tory rebels over Brexit.

Dr Lee, the MP for Bracknell, took his seat on the opposition benches as the PM addressed the Commons.

His defection means that Boris Johnson no longer has a working majority in the Commons.

He said the government was "pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways", putting lives and livelihoods at risk.

Now Boris can't kick him out - wonder if many others will follow suit?

Wow, just wow. The whole thing from start to finish is absolutely astounding. I thought the whole point of Brexit was to bring sovereignty back to the parliament in Westminster. Volatile is an understatement. Where will all this end? It is unbelievable stuff.

Good and so they should be! Hes a lying, snivelling twat!! Not quite on par with Gove who has to be the biggest weasel in politics I've ever seen. But yes I agree all smears should be proven before written. This thread would only be 5 pages long if that were the case.

I tend not to post on this thread, however I am sure we had a referendum 3 years ago with a result. Whether you agree or disagree with the result, surely it is time for the "elected" buffoons that occupy Parliament actually deliver what the public voted for.

everyone keeps saying all the negatives that happen, but surely the vote was should we stay or should we go.

Based on what? Was there enough information provided at the time? Were blatant lies allowed to swing votes? Was the irish border ever mentioned? The list is endless. This simply has been carried out the wrong way. All this should have been debated and then a vote put to the people.

The lead up to the referendum was endless. Debates went on, month after month. The Irish border was mentioned. Remainers were free to raise whatever they liked - and did. There were lies, exaggerations etc on both sides, like any general election. It's all imperfect, but the best it could be.

Meanwhile, Bojo has confirmed he is coming over here next Monday to discuss things with Varadkar. Now that he has lost his working majority in Westminster and the DUP no longer hold power in their hands, I wonder will he drop the DUP agenda on the backstop and make concrete alternative proposals to ensure frictionless trade continues and North-South co-operation continues?

If Boris is forced to go to the EU to ask for an extension to Article 50, don't be surprised when it goes to the vote, if he uses our veto to vote against himself.

This statement says it all about the Tories, from the Guardian

Full statement from Phillip Lee explaining his defection to Lib Dems
Here is the full statement from Phillip Lee explaining his defection to the Lib Dems.

After a great deal of thought, I have reached the conclusion that it is not possible to serve my constituents’ and country’s best interests as a Conservative member of parliament.

Over 27 years ago I joined the Conservative & Unionist party led by Sir John Major. Since 2010, I have had the privilege of representing the Bracknell constituency. The party I joined in 1992 is not the party I am leaving today.

This Conservative government is aggressively pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways. It is putting lives and livelihoods at risk unnecessarily and it is wantonly endangering the integrity of the United Kingdom. More widely, it is undermining our country’s economy, democracy and role in the world. It is using political manipulation, bullying and lies. And it is doing these things in a deliberate and considered way. It has gone so far beyond reckless as to cease to be conservative.

I am dismayed at what the Conservative party has become, the role that it has played in feeding division and populism, in squandering a hard-won reputation for sound stewardship, and the blinkered direction in which it has set our country. Those are not my values. I will not implicitly condone these things by being party to them.

Make no mistake: this is a time of reckoning. The challenges that our world and country face are real – but not insurmountable. We need to root how we address them in evidence and reality. Critically, we need to recognise that we will not solve climate change, counter extremism, or address our housing, health and social care needs alone. We must work with others.

The opportunities to leave a better legacy are also significant. As a united country, we need to mobilise all our innovation, creativity, power and talent – not bury it under a Brexit that does not have the British people’s informed consent. As a society, we need to rediscover the liberal and democratic traditions that made our country great. We should be guided by the values of justice, liberty and community. We must recognise our responsibilities to our people and planet: we are stewards of our country’s and our world’s limited resources.

Each generation needs to define democracy for itself and so we each have a part in shaping what we want our politics and our country to stand for. Each of us must stand and be counted.

That is why today I am joining Jo Swinson and the Liberal Democrats. I believe the Liberal Democrats are best placed to build the unifying and inspiring political force needed to heal our divisions, unleash our talents, equip us to take the opportunities and overcome the challenges that we face as a society - and leave our country and our world in a better place for the next generations.
