I'm reading Sense & Sensibility at the moment. Fed up with not being able to give an honest opinion about the merits of Jane Austen because I hadn't read any of her work (being a bloke and all). Not enjoying it much so far (only about 30 pages in) but read Pride & Prejudice in a day at the weekend and really enjoyed it, to my surprise. Also reading The End of Food: the Coming Crisis in the Food Industry by Paul Roberts which makes frightening reading. We're doomed it would appear! Favourite books are Lord of the Rings by Tolkien and Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
forgot to mention War of the worlds by H.G Wells. i know there have been a few messed up film versions, but as a sci fi novel goes, its one of ( if not )the best. consider the year this book was written,1896, it was light years ( forgive the pun ) ahead of its time. the record wernt bad either.
War of the Worlds is an excellent book. And Jeff Wayne's musical version of War of the World's is pretty epic. I'm quite a big fan of Terry Pratchett. Finally finished the Discworld series recently, except for the young adult ones and ones like the Science of Discworld, etc.
It's technically an older child/young adult book, so the swearing was heavy in it, but it was realistic 'cos in real life adults swear like that in extreme situations and Christopher tells it as it is. A lot of young adult readers don't like that level of language, though.
I'm currently reading American Psycho. Don't have a Kindle but the girlfriend's buying me one for Christmas
My favourite Book is "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman, it's Sci Fi so not to everyone's taste. Apparently Ridley Scott has bought the movie rights. I also love all of Spike Milligan's wartime books, funniest books ever written in my view. "Lord of The Rings" is a book I have owned since I was a kid. Brilliant. Notable mention to The "Flashman" Books and "The Moon's a Baloon" by David Niven
I'm on my second Kindle now, I sat on the last one and suffice to say it's not compatible with my arse. I am currently reading the excellent 'A short history of nearly everything' by Bill Bryson.
I loved 6th form. i made a fiver jumping out of the media classroom window, and won more cash in a lunchtime poker game in the common room. Best years of my life.
last read was kiss the girls by james patterson the one that was made into a film starring morgan freeman before that I read along came a spider, the prequel to it
Good call on the Flashman books! Excellent read and educational at the same time. Shame there won't be any more. Unless another author takes over. But then who could follow GMF?
Last year we broke a football table, a table tennis table, about 10 snooker cues, countless chairs, a stereo, some poor kid's Mega Drive, parts of the common room roof, 17 windows AND put someone's shoe in the microwave. And that was just our year.
