I don't see what the problem is with having a few OT threads. The Newcastle forum is where the Toon fans chat amongst themselves and sometimes it helps to keep it alive on a slow day to have something else to talk about.

The point about the General Chat forum being the place for it is true but if you have ever spent time over there you will realise why most Toon fans stay well clear. Quite apart from the GC being full of tossers there are also quite alot of them that have it in for Toon fans so it is understandable that we have our off topic discussions here.

I also don't understand why the existence of an off topic thread stops people from talking football on the football threads. Agreed though that the OT threads should be few and far between and not allowed to take up too much of the first page.

 

Should have its title changed to reflect this really, no playlist exchanging goes on there (and itunes is ****).

 

Really the mod needs to get tough on the GC its ridicules sometimes

The problem Mick and Syd have been having is that people kick off it it's moderated, hence why it's totally unmoderated. Apart from the NSFW stuff that flags down Google and any racism, which Mick swiftly deals with of course.

 

Exactly there is a thread on there today asking people to state which Race they hate the most. Posters get banned for life on this forum for being racist but on any given day there is that sort of **** going on over there. How can the moderation of both threads be so out of kilter?

 

I'm only aware of 1 person getting a four day ban for using racist language. It is pathetic that people are posting that.

 

To be fair most of the posters are saying Indi 500 and egg and spoon and stuff like that but it is the sort of thread that would be closed straight away anywhere else.

I hate racism so feel like stepping in but I would just get ripped into and probably make it worse. It is ridiculous that the forum isn't moderated. The excuse that the GR regulars don't like it just doesn't wash. If they don't like it then tough. Go forth and multiply!

So yeah as long as the GR is like that I think we have to be tolerant of a bit of off topic chat over here.

 

Racism just shouldn't be allowed anywhere. It should be automatically deleted and the offending posters banned. I thought we were getting beyond that stage now.

 

I can't help but think that Maltese Mick has his favorites on here and prefers the General Chat lot to say the Newcastle lot.

As someone with friends from around the world. I 150% agree with this statement.

 

I don't know about that, but I think our moderators do a good job of keeping things in check without getting overly dictatorial. But the GR is a shambles, total mod rule most of the time so something isn't right.

Maybe Mick needs to be made aware that the GR being as it is pushes off topic subjects onto the football forums, thereby putting off some of the football using punters. He may not have considered that in his bid to keep the GR lot happy.

 

He's discussed it endlessly with Syd and the like and it's the Catch 22 really. Moderate the board and risk the wrath of the GC lot and a couple of the more veteran members, or keep it unmoderated and risk the expansion of the site.

Ah well! Like I said a bit of OT over here doesn't bother me and I use the GR anyway so not really bothering me too much but it still is far from ideal. Glad it isn't my problem to sort!

About 80% of the GC lot still think they are living in the 60's! Every thread in the GC transcends into a sloggy match between 5-6 regulars who have nothing better to do but think of the most disgusting things they can think of, and then call each other it...Like what the hell does bawbag mean.... Literally feels like primary school....

I can understand why most people on this board stay well away!

It's an act of resignation, acknowledging sadly that there is a wrecker in charge of our football club and there is little we can do about it, apart from staying away.

We are fourth, but we will be very lucky if we are fourth bottom or upwards come the end of the season.
