https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49549960 Cabinet meeting in progress, debating whether to call a snap election before 31st October. If this happens it is IMPERATIVE that a Remain Alliance including Labour is formed to beat the Tories in every seat. Corbyn has to swallow his ego or it will be a complete disaster to this country. I read somewhere this morning that Len McCluskie of Unite opposes an electoral alliance and would rather a no-deal Brexit than remaining in the EU. If this is true he must be the first union leader in history to campaign for losing his members’ jobs. He needs kicking off the Labour NEC forthwith, together with all the other Lexiteer dinosaurs who even now insist the EU is a “bosses club”. If it were, why are so many super-rich violently opposed to it?
This is a fascinating but very depressing blog piece by Chris Grey, Professor of Organisation Studies at the University of London. Essentially he says that even if Brexit can be stopped or watered-down, the Brexiteers have already won by irreversibly dividing UK society. https://chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/brexit-has-failed-but-brexiters-have.html?m=1
Yeah, that's a given without even reading the article. There is going to have to be one hell of an education to get this country back together. Going to take years, maybe decades.
Read this article? Referred to in your Chris Grey post. Written by Chris Patten. Very interesting: https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/britain-brexit-failed-state-by-chris-patten-2019-08
Yes, thanks for posting. I read it when it appeared a couple of weeks ago but forgot to post it on here. I haven’t had much time for Patten in the past, especially when he was MP for Bath, but he nails that argument perfectly.
There is no point in trying to get the country back together. Just try to preserve democracy for the next decade and wait for old people die. It’s the only solution.
Yeah. Unfortunately, the young generation coming through since this Brexit fiasco will now have had their minds filled by all this BS by the older generations rather than letting them learn and come up their own conclusions without all this bias, as myself and my generation were able to do. Still, with the modern era of technology and being able to interact with Europeans every day like I do I doubt they will be as easily taken in by this demonisation of Europe as some so the young will eventually overturn this decision. ( it will still be long before these theoretical long term benefits of leaving are realised)
Just watched Buffoon on the news promising funding for 20,000 police, education and the NHS. Pretty much everything that has been fecked up by the Tories over the last 10 years or so, without actually saying that. Just candy to buy Election votes, in all likelihood, with little or no chance of him actually doing it, even if he gets elected.
Watched that to waffling gobshite trying to deflect from the main item. Spending budgets have no relevance until this current exit crisis is resolved. Parliament should be be in constant session to resolve this.
That's what populism is in a nutshell Proper politicians come up with a plan they feel is best for the country and try and sell it. Populists just give people things that sound good and **** them if their teeth fall out from all the candy. Just lies and sugar.
Not really into politics but I just watched his little speech. He talks more bollocks than i do after 10 Thatchers!
It was the young that lost it for us as they were too ****ing lazy to get out of bed and vote. Everyone in my family voted to remain. It is what you do if you have a brain.
