I won't apologise for being a Lewis fan. He's an extraordinary racing driver who has been remarkably consistent for a long period. Charles is a huge talent and well done for getting his first win but he's got a long way to go. I see things from a Lewis point of view and you see things from a Charles perspective. No need to get ratty.

I think that sometimes it’s worth just congratulating another driver for a dominant win, regardless of your feelings towards them. Saying “oh but x or y” just smacks of sour grapes, particularly this weekend.

Lewis is one of the top five ever in this sport. There’s no denying his talent. I don’t “see things from a Charles point of view”, I try and see it from an F1 point of view. Along with Max, Charles has the talent of a Lewis (and perhaps more so than Max). But regardless, the only thing worth saying today is well done to him.

Here’s Charles with Hubert’s mum today. No, no it’s just dust in my eye...

    I can’t imagine what she’s feeling today.

This is quite funny/naughty/true from Lewis (who I am liking a lot more now he’s grown up a bit):

Hamilton, who chased Leclerc to the flag, also acknowledged what a strong job the 21-year-old had done all season against his Ferrari teammate, Sebastian Vettel. “His results speak for him,” he said. “It is not easy for any driver to jump into a top team like Ferrari against a four-times world champion with God knows how much experience and then to continuously, race on race, outperform, out-qualify and out-drive him.”

Heh, I'm not 100% sure that it's true. Leclerc is a fantastic young driver, but he and Vettel have been roughly on par...in races that both have finished, Vettel finished better six times, and Leclerc five (though it's 7-5 Leclerc in qualifying). Not that being the equal of Vettel at 21 is in any way a slight, but this is mostly just Lewis being passive-aggressive as usual...though he's hardly alone there, as Vettel's as passive-aggressive in interviews as he is just plain aggressive on the tarmac.

Hmm...Leclerc has outqualified Vettel six races in a row now. He’s got used to being in the new car, in a new team now. Same as happened at Sauber. Remember as well, at the start of the season Ferrari were openly giving all the support to Vettel and shifting CLC out of the way of him.

Agree it’s Lewis being a bit naughty, but I quite like that!

I thought Lewis was very gracious when David Coulthard interviewed him after the race. Very complimentary about Charles, and even a bit self-effacing by laughing when he said “maybe if I’d had a couple more laps!”

He’s grown a lot as a man in the last couple of years. I like the guy now.

Very sad. People forget just how dangerous the sport is, even with all the technology. Seems they may be looking at the halo again, though whether anything can protect against a smash like that is doubtful.

No, I won’t slate you. There are too many circuits which have either been emasculated or aren’t thrilling at all (the new ones). The run off areas are too big and the gravel traps (do they actually exist anymore?) don’t stop the cars.
Drivers love the high speed circuits like Spa and the old Imola (before Senna’s accident). I’m all for safety, but the sport needs to be thrilling both for drivers and spectators.

A convincing win, especially the second half performance.

Juan Correa, the second driver involved in the F2 crash that killed Hubert, has been placed in an induced coma after complications.

    Halo device, thankfully.

Reminds me of when I was a Thruxton and saw Marcel Albers killed in a very similar crash right in front of me. Am just grateful that no marshals were injured in this one.

I love Thruxton. I used to go every Easter when I was a kid. Fabulous day out.
