Skip to 2.20 which is the build-up to Arsenal's second goal. It is criminal that Guendouzi was allowed so much time and space to pick his pass (it was an excellent delivery truth be told). 2.23: Rose is clearly the man marking Aubameyang. There are no other Arsenal players in dangerous positions given that Guendouzi is shaping up for an inswinging pass. 2.24: Jan clearly has a long look over his shoulder to make sure Aubameyang is being watched. 2.25: Aubameyang is played onside by Rose, who also fails to run with him and fails to warn Jan (not that the Belgian would have had time to compensate and pick him up) 2.26: 2-2. Danny Rose
I can't remember much from Rose today apart from losing the ball in the danger area a few times and doing his best to get himself sent off whilst gifting them free kicks in dangerous areas. His execution of the ball upfront is miss more than hit with his speciality being the low whipped cross which rarely gets past the first man. Can't question his obvious desire but that alone isn't enough...we are not Burnley.
Completely agree and that’s why I touched on in pre-season about possibly a change of style defensively. Go for a strong, defensive back line in order to allow the midfielders more licence to roam and create. We no longer have the flying FBs to keep persisting with this current style, we also don’t have a fit enough DM to cover their tracks. Give me something like: Hugo Sissoko/ Foyth, Toby, Jan, Davies Tanguy, Gio Son, Eriksen, Alli Kane Any day of the week when all are fit to play. Would probably make for some entertaining games too, win or lose!
I was pleased to see creativity restored to our attack initially from Son and then Dele and Gio. but of course without midfield control they did not get enough service. Hopefully our new signings will address the midfield problem. Our defence was a mess as others have highlighted. Lloris made some excellent saves but at times looked like a headless chicken or perhaps a frozen chicken. Stupid short passes from back putting us straight into trouble. Sometimes he seems to have a mental block with simple decisions. Winks showed his strengths on more than one occasion but he needs help from others. Ndembele get fit soon. The two week break could be good for us to bring a squad which looked united again back up to strength and beyond where we were before. On the whole I feel better about the team than I did before the start but we need to be on an upward curve from our very next fixture.
It's strange because when you first bought him, I thought it was a good signing. And, in principle, he has the attributes to be a very good player. He's fast, athletic, strong and powerful. At least, that's what he looked like from what I had seen of him at PSG (admittedly not much though). The fact that you guys would rather have Foyth there or would rather play a midfielder there really shows how bad he must have been for you guys. Either he's refusing to listen to instructions from the manager or he is simply incapable of carrying them out. Whichever one it is, it doesn't reflect well on him.
In short, yes. Two full seasons at the club and he’s had less than a handful of genuinely good games. Foyth has shown far more promise there - which is pretty damning considering he’s still a very inexperienced CB - and Sissoko has also filled in once or twice and looked fine. Long term we need a new first choice RB but short term I think Foyth/ Sissoko/ KWP (latter must improve drastically) can fill the void for now.
It's weird cos he has these abosolute brain farts so regularly. Seems like a nice bloke but a dim footballer.
That front four is awesome if fit/motivated etc. 4-2-3-1 is the best formation too. Sissoko and N'Dombele should work as the holding midfielders. I know there are injury issues, but surely one of Aurier, Walker-Peters or Dier will be fit to play at RB.
Sure RCL I don't have much to say about him except he would look more at home playing for Burnley. If we can strengthen out midfield properly then the wing backs will be easier roles. At the moment teams are passing straight through us even when we have the lions share of possession as with Newcastle. Their goal was far too easy and this has been a problem for some time we have lost that security and now resemble more our team of 2008 that always gave you heart attacks in defence, apart from Ledley of course.
He's hot and cold. Looked to be improving last season but then picked up a lot of injuries and hasn't played much since. I'd have thought Davinson's performance would highlight the importance of a proper right back but apparently not for some on here.
How the **** can you not improve your shooting? Why do our attacks always pick Sissoko out? **** this **** it's not even funny anymore...that guy's shooting is abysmal for a PL footballer.
Made for some classic games in a 12 month period though... 3-3 v away to Fulham, 2-2 away to Liverpool, 4-4 v Villa, 5-1 v Fulham, 6-4 v Reading, 5-1 v Arsenal, 4-4 with Chelsea and 4-4 away to Arsenal, all in 14 months from Sept 07 to Oct 08...and we had 3 permanent managers in that time ...
