I so want to start reading a book again but as im studying to be a Black Cab driver all i get to read is Blue Book 1/2/3/4. Gets rather boring after the 2363rd time
I'm currently reading "Mustaine, a Heavy Metal Memoir" an autobiography by the worlds coolest ginger, Dave Mustaine. My favourite book is The Prince, By Niccolo Machiavelli.
Thanks, all, for your - er - colourful input! It's great to see you all reading. I agree with Jordan in that Kindle isn't for everyone. I like a physical book, too, although as a writer Kindle is a market I've been forced to explore. I don't have a Kindle myself, I use the Kindle app on my android. It's a free app, but of course you have to pay for the books themselves. The prices are cheaper than in the print although in the UK there is VAT on the electronic version. Kennys, I don't doubt the sincerity of your remarks, although it's such a pity those in the firing line have been unable to have their say. As it stands we're stamped as those in the wrong - not true, son.
I've been meaning to read some Kant, I've read parts of The Metaphysical Element. For a philosophy book, Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill is great as well
best book i ever read has to be "black dogs" by Ian McEwan. i have read to kill a mockingbird, but to be honest it didnt do much for me. i think a lot of the interest now in this book is generated by the Beckhams, its become "fashionable" again,so to speak. but then again, what do i know?
Gone With The Wind for fiction Rise and Fall of The Third Reich The Second World War by Churchill for non-fiction
Favourite book: "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller. Read it three times now. By turns funny, horrific, and insane. Sadly, not reading anything at the moment. Last book I read was "No Country for Old Men" by Cormac McCarthy. Wish I had more time to read.
On the kindle debate i think it's part of the new way to get people to live in smaller houses. Soon you'll listen to all your music on a thing no bigger than a pack of ***s, read a kindle and watch all your TV through a memory stick. Doubtless Deliah and Jamie are taking a leaf out of Willy Wonka's book and working on pills that will mean you don't have to have a load of food in the kitchen either
Just read Brave New World, Oryx and Crake or The Road, as well as 1984! God my GCSE English was depressing!
At least you're young enough to have done GCSE's - what about us poor ****s who did O Levels and CSEs?
I've just started my second year of A-Levels now, after getting an E in AS Physics! There was a kid in our year who got 4 Us, needless to say he's gone now!
Gone With The Wind taught me things about the American Civil War I never knew. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime was excellent, although the language was a bit heavy for the readership, but that's the way of the world these days. I love Jane Eyre, but I'm not going to see the new film. I've seen about eight versions of it already. Never got on with Wuthering Heights, though. It should have ended with Cathy's death. Jane Austen's books are easy reading.
