The Aussies had their chances and failed to take them. The umpiring decisions did help.

  2. Oh absolutely. Payne will be haunted by reviewing the Leach one!

The moment that seemed so far away when our last man came in.

    WTF!!!
Our annual Dunblane cricket match today, lovely day, me 10 no for first time (have to retire on 10). Our team won the wooden stumps trophy and we had a lady playing (diversity eh) who got 6 (hockey player - good eye) and 1 spectator. Then to the pub to find England needing 9 to win - WTF!!!
    What could be better!
BTW to play in the Dunblane cricket match you only have to be able to stand up, cricket skill optional.

Of course, England need a Kiwi to beat the Australians (and NZ!)

Don't forget about Archer from Barbados !

Someone like Nigel Farage is a cricket fan I believe? Must have mixed emotions.

Mind you we did have Jack Leech from somewhere in Somerset .

Amazing result.... We were on a local Riverside beach with almost no signal.. But just got the result and managed to tell another English family who had not dared to take their phones with them...
    Such an incredible outcome...

I see Smith has started sledging Archer before the game even starts
When Smith walks up to the wicket to bat all the bowlers should ask if they can borrow the sandpaper he always keeps in his pocket
Then when he is dismissed say don't bother we don't need it now
Childish and unsportsmanlike I know but that is all the Australians seem to understand these days

He is obviously scared of Archer and I think sledging him now is the best way of getting a few more bouncers served up. Archer should bowl him a 90mph yorker instead to make him dance although he does not need much encouragement to fidgit. Personally I think the booing has been overdone. They served their time and have got the message.

James Anderson ruled out of the Ashes with a recurrence of his calf injury.

Sadly I think that may be the end of a glittering test career.

His efforts have been phenomenal <ok>

Shame but least he pulled out before the test started!

  17. He was asked how he'd deal with Archer - he gave an honest answer. Nothing to do with sledging.
Given the sporting way in which they accepted their defeat last week you're very wide of the mark I would suggest.

Broad gets Warner and Harris in first half an hour.

Goodness knows what the average of the openers is for both sides but must be close to single figures!
