Cant have been that old can he, shame that, coincidentally there was a great BBC4 doc on Two Tone last night
If they don't then that is really is a bad show, he was a fine servant to the club and should be marked by a tribute to him before the game.
Sadly the club has become a bit hit and miss with these things. They did an excellent job after Skip's passing but failed completely with Jimmy McGill. Looks like Doug Clarke will fall into the latter category. I can only presume that there are so few people at the club who have any real connection to the former players or even the football tradition of honouring rhe deaths of former players, that these things escape them. Very sad as it degrades the standing of the club in the local community: if the club themselves don't value ex players who have played hundreds of games, it sends the message no one is really interested in them and they weren't that important anyway. Summary: as well as being slightly ignorant, it's the hallmark of a tinpot club.
Maybe they just celebrate players or family that live locally, Doug Clarke lived on the south coast so out of sight out of mind so to speak. It still shows poor thinking, it doesn't matter where they live now, we should always honour former players and staff.
