Ah, so not investing to speculate or cutting your cloth to suit, the best run football club run by the smartest of business men stopped investing because they are petty, vindictive, childish ****s. Thought so

That it is...No one wants to see any club going to the wall. I'm assuming they've done the DD....Its ages since I studied Accountancy, but I trust the acid test won't burn that much.. Still I wouldn't be surprised if it went belly-up. Nothing surprises me about the beautiful game.

What is overlooked is the large number of small towns in that area, who's nearest football club is Burnley. My uncle, cousins and their kids were brought up in a small town called Barnoldswick, which was about 10 miles from Burnley but the nearest football club. They all have claret and blue blood as thick as my Amber and black. Other similar towns having Burnley as the nearest club would include Skipton, Colne, Nelson,

Still a lot less than the number of people whose nearest club is City. And not far for them to go to get to that magnet for plastics, Manchester. (Awaits someone saying plastic is not magnetic).

Every time I see Barnoldswick I think of Ripping Yarns. And Barnsley fans chanting Barnestoneworth United when they were beating us 5-0.

Nick Mason of Pink Floyd is amongst the group that has bought Bolton.

There's nothing like a local rivalry to gather fanatical support and Burnley have this in the historic East Lancs derby with Blackburn, if we were within 20 miles of Leeds or Sheffield we would have had a more febrile fan base in my honest opinion, likewise if Burnley was north of Skipton they'd have been a smaller club.

Like what? They may be wealthy compared to a lot of people but not wealthy enough to fund a football club after paying off their debts,

Remember one time on t'Long Side in the mid to late 70s, there was some demin clad youth on their side of the fence with HXTFC on his denim jacket. Got dog's abuse for his Red Rose decision that day.

Don’t agree. That area was a football hotbed from the start. There were a number of founder members of the league in that area whilst Hull had two rugby league teams and was years behind in establishing a football league team. There are a lot of clubs with rivals within 20 miles of each other whose fans are no more febrile than ours.

The original 12 clubs were not there because they were the biggest hotbeds, but because they were near to each other hence the inclusion of Acc Stan and the absence of SWFC. Six teams from the NW and six Midlands ones, as they wanted to minimise travel expenses and get big gates from local derbies

Might I recommend 1888-1988 League Football and the men who made it by Simon Inglis?
