Eriksen, according to all reports, has his heart set on Spain. There are only three possible clubs there that could be considered a step up: Real, Barca, Atleti. None of whom are tripping over themselves for his signature. Sure they can wait till next summer and pick him up for free, but he’ll never be more than a bench sitter.
Depends to whom you're being honest to. We're talking about to journalists. You don't have to truthfully answer every question they ask you. You don't actually need to answer at all.
Judging by what I’ve found, the interview seemed to take place around 5th June which essentially was the end of the season. To be honest we have to accept that it works both ways though in this business. Off the top of my head I remember Vertonghen telling the media that he wanted to join Spurs, he was even imploring Ajax to accept our offer. In fairness to Eriksen, he hasn’t said anything negative about us, nor has he tried forcing a move, in fact the very article he mentions about seeking a new challenge, he finishes with: “It all depends on Daniel Levy and there has to be another club too. Or I will sit down myself at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself. There aren’t many boxes that Tottenham don’t tick so if I have to move away, it would have to be a step up.” If Madrid/ PSG etc don’t make the offer and he’s still here once the window shuts, if he keeps to his word (which he’s done so far after rejecting Utd as he said he won’t join a domestic rival) then there may be a possibility Eriksen will sign a new deal, even if that means a release clause being inserted. I have a feeling he will go though, I imagine a deadline day bid will be accepted. Buying clubs know they have us over a barrel. A huge shame to lose him but I don’t hold any grudge towards Eriksen.
Not really. Kane signed a new contract in 2016 for 100k (yes i know he signed a new contract again) for 6 years. Thats a 31.2m contract. Considering pookaku and morata went for 60+ then provided kane wanted to move, 62m is a bargain (less in 2017 when he signed a new contract). Going on your contract rule eriksen a potentially 80m+ player could have left last year for 16m because hes only on 75k a week (that would be a top earner for most clubs not in the top 6). Any player with 3 years left on their contract and on 100k would at most fetch 30m. Chelsea could have saved themselves a lot of money on bakayoko and drinkwater
It can clearly be disrespectful, though. If an atheist were to interrupt a church service and shout about it all being horse **** it would be honest, but it would also be disrespectful.
To put a positive spin on things lately, more sources are running with the story that Toby will sign a new deal. I think he probably knows he put off potential buyers with the £180k a week demands. Sounds like he’ll be signing a ‘double your money’ deal, which would put him on around £160k a week. A compromise on both parties seems to have been met as we initially weren’t offering more than £130k whilst he was standing still on the £180k.
FFS Powerspurs...this was a respectful and insightful debate and then you have to drop the C word into it...out of line
I mean be truthful to Levy and Poch but don't go making it public to journalists. That way the club can take the appropriate measures without disrupting dressing room harmony.
Smacks of desperation from us, unless it's a 2-year contract leaving the door open for retirement to China or the States in the near future. Also hints that the situation with Jan hasn't improved in recent days
