I have done martial arts and boxing and thai boxing etc. The theory always was that generally the thai boxer would come out on top as he had more weapons, as in arms and legs. The boxer then the kungfu/karate etc The reasoning (and there was evidence in the form of tournamnets to suggest this) was that the 'boxing' styles involved sparring, full contact and involved better fitness and stamina The karate guys had form but werent used to taking a punch basically Now i am sure its not true or all, but a lot of the boxers i knew were tough/rough lads despite knowing boxing, whereas karate kung fu was a little more across the board, in my experience the posher end. MMA/UFC combine a lot of the arts so for me in theory/on paper will win every time. The only time this is not so is if the guys are mismatched as in a white belt v black belt etc
The difference being that the Collar and Elbow tie up is often the prequel to a takedown or a throw, where as the boxers then get told to break and then go back to it.
I do agree with that actually, having fought all of the above and trained in Karate and MMA styles side by side. I notice how the karate students will complain at the slighted knock where as in XBBA we would fight on until there was blood or a broken bone.
I have a mate who instructs kung fu now, Used to go to a lot of competitions and eventually started to win quite a few trophies Very quick. The problem was it was all semi-contact so he got into the habit of not following through with his punches and even kicks we went to a gym where the guy was grappling, different ball game
Yeah, but we had to stop the fight due to health and safety laws. We would have to receive treatment to stop the blood so as not to spread any disease we had. Like in Football changing shirts. Also on the topic of gloves, in tournaments we are required to wear gloves which severely reduce the contact and damage caused by the blows, however in MMA it might as well be bare knuckle which hurts a damn lot FACT.
correct young jip. indeed, boxers commonly finish fights with broken noses and hands..it's the nature of the beast
Bare-knuckle boxing is less likely to cause brain-damage than boxing with gloves on though. Apparently the knuckles cause more pain so the fighters give up quicker, whereas with gloves the blows are cushioned but are still causing concussion, and the recipients are being hit more often.
I think thats the difference, Boxers will hurt you with 1/2 punches, but thats IF they can land them on you. Its impossible to punch someone if they are kicking as the arms are shorter than the legs! But it also depends on the person. I have fought fast and light people who will land 5,6 slap kicks or tag a few punches, but its not effective unless its point scoring. However, i have been up against giant who will knock you out with 1 solid blow!
what sort of protection do you have underneath the mma gloves? i know they're a lot lighter than boxing gloves, 4 oz aint it? i dont imagine you have much room to be able to have much protection ie wraps underneath. granted boxing gloves are heavier, 12 oz usually...so the common thought is they aren't as hard as mma gloves..but when you have gauze and tape compacted around your hand and wrist to the point where it is literally like a solid cast (the type you have when you've broken your arm) you feel every single blow. i've taken shots that actually felt like they were hitting you with a brick
mkay i've got a set of dumbs..i'd rather stick to them rather than barbells cause they are easier to store..what size bells would you be looking to use to pack on a bit? not a lot..only say 9 or 10 lbs or so..what would you recommend, compound excer. or isolation?
I was using 18kg as a single weight ie for bicep curls but 12kg for exercises with both hands ie shoulder press, lateral and front shoulder lifts. You are better sticking with dumb-bells though, they're more flexible. I put on a stone in about 6 months, another stone within a year.
oh not as heavy as i thought..a mate of mine did a bit porridge a few years back and he came out like a monster..he's lost a lot of it since over the past couple of years but he's starting up again soon so i'll go with him.. the most boring part of it seems the diet ..maybe i'll dirty bulk
