    Our record under Dean since we beat Tranmere 7-0: P: 3, W:0, D:0, L:3, GF:1, GA:4. Just sayin'.
We've actually lost five games in a row with him in charge though, so our poor run goes back to before that game.

I think this puts where we presently are as a team into perspective...

Don't worry about it, not many thought you'd be ever any good anyway.

Well if that's mirrored over the 38 games this season, at least my season ticket will become dirt cheap.

Every silver cloud an' all that.

Interesting you mentioned that. There was a 60/40 ball in the middle of the park in the 1st half. He just had to go through with it to make a real statement. He bottled it and they broke away!
He looks like a decent lad but sadly he's lightweight and short of both the ball skill or real pace to function at PL/CL level.

He also looks totally shot on confidence. Very similar body language to Trippier last season and, tellingly, didn't even attempt to beat his man once from about 10mins onwards. Sissoko did it twice and got two excellent crosses in - one which Lucas should've kept down and the other which Kane completely miscued due to his boots being filled with cement.

I can't believe I'm typing this but I hope his injury keeps him out of the Arse game. The likes of Aubameyang and this Pepe kid will have a field day against him.

Perhaps our future weekend games should be played on a Monday. That way we can pray for our team on the Sunday. Don't laugh. If you watch players today,a lot of them are crossing themselves or on their knees praying. Perhaps it pays to do that(?)...over to you Poch!

Sure we may not have deserved anything out of the game, but penalties change games. If you're not going to get one then everything that happens after is affected. And since penalties are part of the game you can hardly dismiss their effect. Basically other teams play badly, get a pen (sometimes not even deserved) and move on. Of course there are underlying problems, but these tend to look better from the perspective of a win instead of a defeat. All I'm saying is that certain other teams might (would) have got that pen, the team would be lifted, and there wouldn't be such a clamour for everyone to fall over themselves to find a new point to criticise. Basically you're arguing that we didn't deserve a legitimate penalty and that's just nuts.

I get your point but penalties are not factual...they are about judgement.
Against city I think we got away with one. When Lamela pulled down the city player the ref judged it was 50/50 which is why VAR did not say it was a clear and obvious error.
City did not drop points cos of that...they dropped points because they they failed to defend properly and were not clinical enough.
We failed yesterday cos we did not create chances and defended badly for the goal.
We can argue about the penalty but that is not why we failed to win

Premier league results from April onwards show we have only beaten Palace, Brighton, Huddersfield and Villa while losing to West Ham, City, Bournemouth and Newcastle and drawing against Everton and City.

    That's;
    10 games 4 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws...
Goals for 14 Goals against 9
7 of those scored came in just 2 matches so we score just 7 in the other 8 games.
We failed to score in 4 games
We only kept 3 clean sheets
We only scored more than once 3 times

I think that penalties are distracting from the issues that we have, the biggest being thst we do not defend from the front or attack from the back anywhere near as well as we did 2 years ago.

According to Harry Kane, Mike "****" Dean has adopted The Wenger Defence of saying he had no clear view of the incident, which means that VAR can be used to pretend that Premier League refs are infallable

If he was a ref in South America, somebody would've shot him by now

I'm going to wait till the European transfer window shuts because that will end that excuse for Poch.

He's getting all melty and everything is a reason for our bad form but himself.

His recent press conferences have been worrying, his whole demeanour and language is really negative. Considering he was finally backed in a transfer window (albeit on deadline day) I don’t understand why he is being like this.

Interesting. But surely this would not take long to establish between VAR and him? VAR could say it looked like a pen and at that point if he said he didn't have a clear view then surely VAR should take the lead? Otherwise it's just a bit random whether the ref is in the right position or not, and if not then VAR can decide. And I do take the point that we shouldn't have to rely on penalties, but surely it is just as important that penalties are given (on an even basis regardless of which team is playing). It's also not bleating to mention the Dean factor. If he'd done that to Fergie's Utd he'd never ref them again - but of course none of these refs would do it to certain teams, or the media would never stop criticising.

Why would we have lost to Newcastle? We would have stretched the play and put balls in the box other than the narrow formation you played which was clearly ****ing stupid from your manager. I don't get your point we are set up to deal with teams that sit back by stretching the play therefore creating space and if that doesn't work we put quality balls into the box from out wide.

Reading again do you mean Newcastle would have lost? I hope not as this means I'm just wasting my time here. <laugh>

Imagine how you're feeling about KWP after just three games and then picture what it's like for me having watched Winks for all this time. I'm at a point where I hope he's abducted by aliens.

Agree on the penalty thing, excluding past seasons where we've felt at times we should've had more, not getting the penalty on Sunday has probably evened itself out after Lamela's pull on Rodri at City. It's probably not the correct way to view it as two wrongs don't make a right but law of averages suggest you'll have good and bad luck as the season goes on.

As for the form, as Spud already pointed out, the last 15 league games have shown us be in relegation form. I don't even think I realised how bad it was until seeing the graph but that's a major concern. CL final probably papered over more cracks than I/ we realised, both with playing personnel and manager.

Maybe things have just become stale. We probably peaked in 16/17 where we finished 2nd and unbeaten at the Lane. Since then we've regressed, thankfully we've maintained our CL spot but we've been nowhere near that level of team which is quite a worry. In anything in life you want to progress and not regress. I'm not sure who's directly to blame, some will blame Levy for not spending, some will blame Poch for also not wanting new players at times whilst his selection/ management remain questionable at times, some will blame the players for not kicking on, some will blame Wembley (but that excuse is falling short now seeing as we've been poor at the Lane) some will say it's a culmination of all four. Either way, it feels like something needs to change - and quickly, otherwise we'll probably be reacquainting ourselves with the Europa League (if that!) if we continue this run of form.

None of the goals you scored against Arsenal came from stretching the play. They came from clear mistakes by the Arsenal defence. Newcastle made no mistakes so we didn't score. Also Newcastle scored a simple chance we gave away at 0-0. Arsenal missed a better one. I'm trying to review what actually happened not the folklore.
Obviously I have no idea what would have happened if the opponents had been reversed and you are currently better at breaking down defences than we are. But you had a settled first choice team on the pitch except for the goalie and we had at least five starters missing for an assortment of reasons.
