Match Day Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by PleaseNotPoll, Aug 22, 2019.

  1. Well, that was definitely a low point.

Let's hope it proves to be the lowest point, and Poch can build from here. There are certainly a lot of lessons to learn.

    Missing Tanguy already...
I hope he doesn't change his style of play.

I said it before and I'll say it again... All you have to do to stop Kane is 'man make him' until he gives up.

They looked more dangerous going forward (although it was rare) than Spurs did

    Shockingly dreadful.

Whatever has gone on between Jan Vertonghen and MP needs sorting. He's our best defender and has to play.

No more Winks/Lamela/Sissoko midfields. They have no creativity and picking them again was just ****ing dumb.

Sessegnon, Ndombele and Lo Celso can't get fit quickly enough.

Might as well start with Spurs. Poor finishing and chance creation again. Sanchez and Toby not talking to eachother or leading again. Terrible result, terrible game.

3 pens that Dean bottled though and the last one, which would have resulted in a red for Lascelles, VAR had no excuse not to give. If Dean had given any of the 3, none of them would've been overturned by VAR so how are we getting any consistency or any fairness out of this?

Playing out from the back is the issue. Drop long balls 10 yards outside of the area and make the opposition come out a challenge for it. If they don't, shoot.

Dean being clever. He didn’t call the penalty, which it should have been, knowing that if it it not an obvious error he would be vindicated.Wouldn’t expect anything else from him. Even Dixon thought it was a foul.

6 hours !!!.. Could play till next week Friday midnight and still be looking for the goal.

They never seen to get tired of passing the ball sideways (in first half of games) these days.
Must be something they work at in training.

I don't understand the Rose/Davies substitution in the last few minutes when a goal is needed.

Fergie would have taken a defender off and chucked in a midfielder or attacker. Surely Dier would have made sense?

A certain Spanish striker that we let go might well have helped us with that Newcastle defence today.

Parrott should have been on the bench and Eriksen and Vertonghen on the pitch from the start.

To repeat the sterility of the Villa performance was bloody stupid and completely avoidable.

WE have yet to play a decent game of football so far this season. It's clear from Pochettino's complaining at the press conferences that the squad is disrupted by the window remaining open. This squad has always been united and happy, we seem to have lost that.
Next week we have NLD oh dear!

Pochettino's been getting his team selection and tactics wrong since January/February and they're getting worse.
His substitutions are too slow and we lack attacking options on the bench, due to the initial lineup and poor transfers.
Everybody knew what was going to happen when the teams were announced.

VAR is turning out to be what I feared, which is workable on things like offside, but not fit for purpose otherwise.
The refs won't contradict each other and garbage like Mike Dean will continue to **** everything up every week.
Pochettino should have stuck to his guns last season and ensured that we don't have him in charge of our games.

That was an awful performance which started with a poor team selection by Poch, not picking your best available starting XI is madness in any PL game and once again a chance to gain points on some of our rivals goes begging in standard Spursy fashion.

KWP and Sanchez are error prone at the back, our delivery from out wide is poor, we take too many touches instead of passing or crossing it first time, Winks and Sissoko in CM lacks creativity and they both always take the safe option. Add to that Son and Kane being way off the pace for whatever reason and Lamela and Lucas having bad days also.

God help us if we lose Eriksen in the next week, because the future without him looks bleak. At this time we are way off challenging for the title and what with uncertainty over the future of key players it all looks a bit of a mess at the moment. I can not see any improvement yet and without Eriksen we look a worse team, that does not bode well moving forward for retaining key players.

As for Mike Dean, he was just as expected and VAR will not over rule the on field referee, no matter how poor / biased he is.

A lot of us have debated about the futures of players in recent weeks and whether or not they’re supposedly being disruptive, think it’s about time we ask about the manager’s intentions.

Three dog **** selections in three games and his mannerisms have been so off it’s becoming infuriating.

Jan Vertonghen is our best CB. Christian Eriksen is our best player, or certainly best creative midfielder. Start them you ****ing idiot.

Agreed, I think complacency has set in and their was hope to simply repeat what happened against AV in the second half.

Spurs can be a little one dimensional and other teams are now recognising their best tactics against Spurs is to simply play deep. Sometimes it pays off like today.

Nearly all teams except a handful, uses this tactic against Spurs. Can't blame them.
