Too small. Rickie is absolutely central to Saints plans for the next 18 months or more. He could be the difference between being promoted this season, or not getting past the Championship level for several seasons.
I can imagine the response from Cortese. Yes Mr Pardew you can have him for 25 mill cash up-front. Bye bye.
I can just imagine him trying to hold a straight face and keep the sniggering from coming out... "Ok....25m is a...*snigger*...deal! You won't.....*snigger*...regret it!"
If Pardew did want him, would he not have signed him last month? Why wait until the January transfer window? Just ignore this rumour.
There is defintely a case for a Sun sports editor saying... slow news day in The Championship. Let's start a rumour..! Pardew signed Lambert, while at Saints. Pardew lost Carroll to Liverpool. Pardew wants to improve his side without spending too much money. He still likes Lambert. OK, I think we have our rumour... EDIT: Just popped across to TSF and one or two of the idiots are saying... £5M..? Grab it & run. I know Lambert is 29, so he's only got a few years left, which makes his value limited. But he's certainly worth a damn site more than £5M to us. When you consider he's worth almost a goal a game, and gets assists a-plenty, and distributes the ball extremely well, and runs off the ball excellently, and most importantly, we've styled our Plan A game around him. That makes him worth much more than the money. Besides, Toon need the cash more than we do..
The thing with Lambert is, for us we should never sell him for £5m, but if we were another team we should never buy him for £5m. It works the same way Chamberlain did for us - he is worth more to us than he is worth in the eyes of the market. Thankfully with Chamberlain we found a complete moron who was willing to pay our valuation of him, which was more than he was worth, so it worked out well for us.
Spot on. It's our financial position along with a promotion challenge which creates a Saints value - which is like *finest to us ...after all there's ultimately only one club in our position.
Ricky said he wanted promotion with Saints and to finish his careerwith us at the time he was given a new contract designed to chase off suitors.
And this is why it wouldn't happen. Newcastle has no reason to pay the kind of money for a soon-to-be 30 year old with no Premiership experience that we would require to sell an integral part of a team that has promotion aspirations this year or next. Selling Rickie would crater those hopes, we're not cash-starved, and there's no way that Pardew throws so much money at us that we cannot refuse.
Maybe the headline was correct, but missed one word out. It could have meant to read: "Mrs Pardew wants Lambert".... now wouldn't that be ironic
The Sun are spouting b****cks as usual he has just signed a new contract at Saints and loves it here.
never forget, the Sun is the daily News of the World. Perhaps I should say no more - they may well tap into my email arrangements!
On the open market Lambert is probably 3-5 million beause of his age, but his value to us, with promotion our aim, is 15-20 million.
He's priceless. There is no way on earth we'd consider selling him. Unless it was a truly mental price, above £20m.
