Yeah I've never really understood it. For someone his size he is going to struggle getting down quickly to stuff close to him, but he has long limbs so I don't really understand why he wasn't really intensely coached to use his feet like De Gea does. His legs will be long enough to reach a lot of the shots he tried to get his body behind that were "howlers" so I thought he would've trained relenetlessly on that as it was such a glaring weakness, even when he was considered decent. Maybe he did try and just couldn't pick it up.
Nope I watched a Simpson's episode last night and Chief Wiggum couldn't reach stuff on the floor, he couldn't bend down. So his pants fell down and he couldn't pull them up. Then the local crook crawled between his legs and he couldn't stop him. It reminded me of our Fraser.
And he holds the title of longest top flight shut out for us, and that's a record that I'd be surprised if its ever beaten. Funny ol' game.
That is a record to be proud of but TBF Fraser gets a bit too much personal credit for it IMO. It was more to do with Ronald changing the defensive system and the defence playing well as a unit IIRC, big Fras barely had a save to make during that run. although he did have a stormer at the Emirates I think.
And yet the fans had no part in that, only his demise. That may have had something to do with the defensive players in front of him helping but yes he was a major part in tgat. As you say, it's a funny old game.
For a big imposing beast of a man he never dominated his area in the air enough for me and was scared to leave his goal far too often for crosses, that is something that Alex is very good at particularly.
Yeah I've long said that was much more down to the change to 3 at the back than his return, as you say I think Arsenal was the only match in that run where he won us points so to speak. You could also be really harsh if you wanted and say he could have saved the first goal that went in after that run Completely agree and this is the main reason I don't believe he was ever any better than average to decent.
Yeah that's a classic funny Simpson's moment, Chief Wiggum is one of my favourite characters. I love the one where he is at a hogroast and he is making fun of the pig's nose with a close up of his own piggy snout.... Or the the one where he is laid back in his chair scratching his nose with his loaded pistol.
I have always said about Fraser that he is an 'honest' keeper. What I mean by that is that if a shot is coming in and he knows (and trust me a keeper will know) he can get no where near it, he doesn't make an effort. He doesn't do the Hollywood dive etc - yep maybe that is a shortcoming of his, but also I think it is why we moaned at him as you think why didn't he try, when really he knew he had no chance. Just my opinion of course as someone who has never gone in goal, or really been any good at football. In other words I am probably talking **** and giving him the benefit of the doubt because of my good nature
He gets beaten at the near post to much for that formula. Just wish he'd do the hollywood spread sometimes, its amazing how many clip of the ankle and fly over the bar. Some keepers look great.....when they are just half lucky! Make your own luck, spread yourself lad!
Agreed: Forster might not be the best keeper, but he leads the Premier League in surface coverage. Starfish, man, starfish!
