Totally agree with you on the Hardcore, fast techno dance crap!

Fair play to all those who are into the dance scene, Ibiza scene, following top DJ's. I'm actually a big Morillo/Harry Choo Choo Romero fan myself from back in 2004/5 ish when I used to be a massive admirer and follower of their Subliminal Sessions. Also I would go back to Ibiza at the drop of a hat, I love the place. BUT, that's not the same as this "Happy Hardcore" stuff, I can imagine how a "DJ" would put together one of those tracks.

DJ1: Ok got Cheryl Cole, Fight for this love on mate.
DJ2: Ok mate, speed it up as fast as it will go.
DJ1: What about a hard thumping fast beat over the top?
DJ2: Yeah that would be good, give it a try.
DJ1: That's it then mate, let's send it to production.

I don't judge the people who listen to it, but it really is one of, if not the least talent-requiring forms of music production.

I can appreciate how a DJ can pick sounds out and mix them together, some would say that is ripping it off but if done right can sound amazing.

I'm a huge Beastie Boys fan and they like Cypress hill have managed to bridge the gap between rap and rock very well, but some of the sounds they mix into a song is awesome. Flute loop as an example or another where the main instrument feature is a harpsichord and they still manage to rap to it.

    Now that is talent.

Err I think you're contradicting yourself a bit here, or am I missing the point? Do you have a point? I don't really see the link to music and social atitude, this isn't the 70s.

I remember back at school during a particularly slack R.E. lesson our teacher set a team challenge to name a band for each letter of the alphabet. 3 points for a unique band and 1 point for a duplicated answer. When everyone else was answering chart stuff like Boyzone and S club 7 my group totally nailed it with headswim, meat puppets, and pennywise etc... Or so we thought. Teachers rules; if she hadn't heard of them they didn't count. A sleight of hand as smooth as the devils there.
Captain Beefheart, Cat Power, Howlin Wolf, Justice, Dylan. But a ten that I always have time for... Nirvana, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins (pre adore), Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Modest Mouse, The Shins.

The only beastie boys stuff i really like is off licence to ill, where they had Kerry King from Slayer play guitar for them. I love the no sleep til brooklyn video, it's funny seeing a metal god drop kick a gorilla.

Number one is a truly amazing band from Norwich named NFL (played 1992-1996) who went on to dominate the charts of Lithuania in 1995.

The lead singer was sexy <whistle>

    Not any more.

Some crack heads in Nottingham robbed my flat and stole everything I owned about 15 years ago.
