    The positives being:

1: We will save some wages (depending how much the loaning team are paying)
2: He may perform well on loan and have potential buyers next summer
3: He will have 1 year less on his deal when he returns so might be more open to a move

If loaning Ely out I would imagine we would save something around the £1m mark in terms of wages, so that is obviously beneficial.

An intangible benefit is that it is one less player to occupy thinking at St Marys. It didn't work for him here, but no ill will...let's hope e does well and a solution can be found.

As it stands at the moment he must be one of the worst buys in Saints history...I mean, even Osvaldo managed a Worldy when he was here.
Carrillo, Forren, Forecast, Pulis, Mo El....any more?

    4. He will not be taking up a valuable senior squad place.

Mayuka was shocking, carcares was weird, taider was odd.

There's been a few. But to be fair, you have to expect the odd one not to work out. I don't think there's any excuse for Carillo or Ely though. The amount we spent, the limitations they have. Really shocking.

He had a goal that game when they beat City 2-1. Granted it was the second leg where City won the first game in a landslide so they weren't exactly going all out. But yeah, he was probably the standout player on the pitch.

Other teams remember that game among others, and they've also seen his brother play, which is why they are interested in him on a loan. The way they see it, Elyououssi is a potentially good player who ended up stuck in a bad situation playing for an awful side with an awful manager, and then got caught in a managerial shuffle. That's probably a much more objective way of looking at it.

If he was legitimately as ****ty as people here think, no one would want him even on loan. He's the scapegoat for us sucking under Hughes, even though he was no ****tier under Hughes than anyone else. He wasn't good, but he also wasn't bad. He didn't play enough to make a difference one way or the other.

He's probably an okay-but-not-great player, just like Carrillo is an okay player who everyone thinks sucks even though they haven't seen nearly enough of him to make a judgment. Leganes had a good season last year with Pellegrino as the manager and Carrillo as their striker. So like, that combination can work. It just didn't work for us.

Yeah Abraham and Bamford is the right ball park I reckon (Chelsea). I came across this guy when it was mentioned he was yet another Chelsea loanee playing in the Championship last season, at Shef Wednesday.

Don't forget about Forte. He actually finished out his contract with us, despite only paying for maybe one month.

When he signed we were in League One. By the time he finished we were in the PL.

Considering what he and Carrillo were bought to do, namely create and score goals and the actual amount they cost between them, they have both been a massive letdown.
I never care what players have done at other clubs, I only ever judge them on their performances in a Saints shirt.

Delgardo and, even worse, his cousin who never managed a game. I friend of mine was told by the goalkeeper Paul Jones that he could believe how inept the latter was.

Just remembered Super Marians mate Imants Bleidelis, the only time I ever saw him was playing snooker at the 147 club in town with Marians!...
Tbf he was probably worth signing if only to help Marians overcome his homesickness

Yeah, and my point is your judgement is bad. They really haven't played enough for us to get a good read. And when they did play, they were no worse than anyone else.

The only difference between Carrillo/Elyounoussi and Gabbiadini/Boufal is that the first two don't play but somehow get blamed for everything, and the latter two did play a little but their lack of performance is blamed on the manager instead.

Which isn't to try and trash or pump up any players. I just think most players we can get are average-ish system player. Match them up with the right manager and the right tactic and they can be quite good. In the wrong place, they're kind of useless. But it's seldom you get an outright world-class player who can do it all, or a genuine bumbling idiot who shouldn't be playing even in Championship.

I was glad he finally found a home a bit of success at the end of his career. I always wonder what it was like to be him, and what he thought of us? Was he mad that he had to report every year knowing he had no shot of making the team? Did he think he could make the side and make a difference if someone would just give him a chance? Or did he look proudly at our position, and think "I did that. We're not here without my two goals."

And it's not like he was drawing a PL paycheck. I'm sure he made more money playing for us than he would have otherwise, but it wasn't like crazy cash.
He was a League Two player who somehow accidentally ended up on an Euro League side. It must be an odd feeling.
