That's one good thing about this dump, it's on the coast.

I probably live about a mile, mile and half from the coast now, but grew up living just a few 100m from it.

A bit like @FosseFilberto , but the old Roker Park used to be just around the corner.

If any of you ever went there, you'd know just how close it was to the seafront.

<laugh> you bring back a fond memory ... was Valentine's day either 80 or 81 ... told my girlfriend I'd arranged a surprise ... went to Leicester Station and got on a train ... all the way to Sunderland to watch us lose 1-0 ... luckily she had a fine sense of humour .. and I did make it up to her with a lovely meal in a French bistro later that week ...

I have two abiding memories of Roker. Firstly it being absolutely brass ****ing bollocks, and secondly once being caught in the middle of a pitch battle after a lunchtime kick off derby match. Sat there in my car hungover to **** (I was going to Roker to get some fresh air and didn’t realise the game was on) watching coppers on horseback trying to separate Mackems and Geordies trying to beat the **** out of each other.

<laugh> every **** you ever visits always comments on the weather.

you both know how close it was to the seafront.

My old mate, a hammer came up for the weekend, the week after Bobby Moore died and we played them. He still comments to this day about how cold he was. But he ****ing loved it. He got on like a house on fire with my dad and everyone, despite the daft **** wearing that shirt.

We are still great mates to this day.

Hate big cities. Used to live in London, hated it. Used to travel to New York for business regularly, hated it. Now live in the burbs, don't mind it. I want to live by the sea and will do when the kids have left home.

Went to London today to watch a show. Sirens and drills as usual but I do like viewing all the foreign birds who are visiting our great capital.

I've even visited my mum and dad today, that is rare. So drove along the coast road, sea flat as pancake, which is ****.

I like the sea at winter, with the storms.

It's funny how much house prices rocket with a seaview.

The worst thing that ever happened in my life was when my boatbuilding dad had to move a largish young family from the idyllic English Riviera (Teignmouth) to a council estate in Southampton because there was no work for him, when I was 7.
We probably would've been poorer as a family but happier overall had we stayed I believe.
I'll always respect my dad for having the balls to do it though.

I worked in York for a couple of years, commuted in though and ****ing hated it, as the traffic in and out is a total mare. Lovely City though, had some boss nights out in York.

I mentioned the other day that I used to get off the train, mid-journey, at York just to go for a stroll and a pint. I don't think I've ever done that in any other city.

I love my music, and like going to gigs.

Most recently was the Brum one, smashing city now.

But have to say i was very impressed with Derby.

A car full of us broke down on the way back from WBA back in the 80s and we spent a very pleasant evening in Evesham (South of Statford apon Avon Worcestershire?) and vowed that we would go back there for our stag nights (we never did). The locals were so friendly and the pubs and beer were great.

The villages in The Cotswolds are some of the picturesque I have seen, but for sheer beauty the North West coast of Scotland near Ben Nevis takes some beating.

Lived on Huntington road for about six months, Monkgate entrance to the City.

    You know it?

Used to drink in a place called The Tap & Spile, pretty much discovered real ale and, specifically, Timothy Taylor's there.
