Was only a matter of time before someone got hurt, but our stewards were too busy trying to eject home fans.
Well if you take the result out of it, I have had an amazing day and my son has had one he will never forget...from driving in with Frannie (a bloody top bloke), to meeting all the players in the changing room, warming up alongside the players on the pitch to leading the teams out, finishing with being an assistant photographer pitchside! Memories that will stay with him forever...I’m sure he’ll forget the result quickly though! I thought we played well today, bar the first part of the second half. I thought Liverpool struggled to play against us and although we rode our luck a little, so did they. I don’t think they would have had too many complaints if the score was 2-1 in our favour. If (and it’s a big if) we play like that all season, we’ll be fine and pushing the top half...that second goal was typical of us though and we really do need to find a way to stop the brain farts at the back!
Agree about Armstrong, he looked good when he came on. Maybe he doesn't have the energy to play a pressing game for 90mins but he deserves more time on the pitch IMO.
Written before scanning the previous comments. Bit of a curates egg today. We were the better team for significant periods - esp. the first half. But we looked vulnerable at the back and didn't put our chances away. But hey, Liverpool looked a bit vulnerable at the back and failed to put away a lot of chances. We screwed up on the 2nd goal and they screwed up on ours. Valery was short of his usual high standards and Bertie looked a bit ordinary too. But Gunn prevented a cricket score, Maya added a bit of confidence at the back and Armstrong succeeded where others had failed to raise the tempo of our game a bit. Big surprise for me was Djenepo. I did not expect him to be that good so early in his Saints career. Looking forward to seeing more of him. So for me the only real difference was Mane. Top guy.
After reading comments - Yep. Ref made it virtually 12 -v- 11. He's a complete and utter w@nker. Without VVD Liverpool would be struggle to finish in top 6. I have no idea why people who want to tell us how bad things are keep referring to previous seasons. We are marginally stronger than last season and this is Ralph's first full season. Previous seasons are totally irrelevant. Looking forward to Brighton and to players like Boufal, Djenepo and Danso adding further strength to the line up.
He certainly "Spiked" the Saints into action when he came on...(a little Dave Armstrong reference there).
My summary, we have got two of the toughest fixtures out of the way and are only 4 points behind Citeh....
Plenty of positives to take from this game. Adams looks so strong on the ball. The new guy looked unpredictable.he will scare alot of defences
