Went to see Tarantino's newest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last night. Bloody great. One of his best imo. I don't want to say it's my fave by him so soon after seeing it, but it might be. As always, the acting is superb, the film looks gorgeous, the dialogue is classic Tarantino and the soundtrack I think is the best one he's compiled. please log in to view this image
Of course, goes without saying. Where is he anyways? Surprised he didn't sense that post being made and somehow reply within seconds.
Finally watched “Avengers End game “ last night I enjoyed it, no idea why some said it was hard to follow. All in all a good 3 hours plus entertainment. Bloody good job I had plenty of the sweet stuff, mind you I couldn’t feel my tongue this morning and was definitely feeling a bit of cold turkey after all the sugar I consumed....chocolate addict!!
Just back from watching Marianne and Leonard. Very well made but it does leave a nasty aftertaste. The detritus from all that 60's sex and drugs stuff makes me wonder if the quality of the 'art' of the time justifies the damage that was done.
Early to mid sixties you were alert due to the pills popped at all nighters.Needed something to keep going when getting a drink after midnight was unheard of.
When we were studying in Leeds, every weekend there were at least a dozen parties ( Fri & Sat, a few less on a Sun) happening, so moving from one to another was a strategy my mate & I chose. In the mid sixties it was mainly pot & to some extent acid. My mate & I never touched that stuff, but managed to help ourselves to the beer (sometimes wine) all the dope-heads had brought with them. The were not exactly very alert after taking all the **** they did, and mainly forgot they'd brought along the alcohol which often was the price of entry. Bring one, drink 6 was our motto. Always worked
It's hypothetical but I wonder if the people who died, suffered, are still suffering from the excesses of those times would vote for the same outcome if they had their time again.
People die of drugs and excesses now. They just don’t have much fun doing it as they did then or produce as much good, long lasting music. Though it goes back a long way, to the days of Hank Williams Jr and before him. Always wonder what would this favourite of mine would have become if she hadn’t lived hard and fast and died young. Would they have been the same if they didn't do things to excess in the first place?
Well, we'll all die wondering. But a lot of folk produced great music and art without dying, and a lot of people died/suffered without producing anything. What made me ask myself the question was the way Marianne's son ended up in the film, ie damaged but an innocent bystander. Also the Johnson family who produced bugger all of note but all died early and tragic deaths.
Hard to say. But I don’t think A Day In The Life, Purple Haze and the like would have come about if they had been sat around drinking camomile tea and eating lentils. Keith Richards kids seem to have come out all right whilst kids of dads in mundane 9 to 5 jobs haven’t.
