Morning all. Bright and sunny, but an occasional shower might arrive this evening. Just realized that tomorrow is a public holiday and I am not going to have enough milk to last through to Friday, so an unwanted trip to the supermarket this morning. The roads around us will close at 5.00 pm for the annual cycle race, and the guys who paint the direction signs on the roads have been around. It looks as though the paint didn't dry quickly enough as some signs are now spread up the road, and some cars will have white paint on their tyres. Enjoy your day. <ok>

Assumption Day is only a public holiday in Bavaria and Saarland here Frenchie. It's a curious position in Germany where Bavaria has nearly twice as many public holidays as eg. Hamburg. You need to keep a running check on them in Germany because of road freight which can't travel in those states which are affected. Very puzzled by France though, because I always thought they had a very rigid separation of religion and state and normally only Catholic areas make much of Assumption Day.

Yes it does seem odd in one respect, but there is a very strong attitude to freedom of choice. My granddaughters went to a private school here because the language learning in a small school would be of more help to them. A private school is allowed to teach religious knowledge, whereas the public schools do not. The state run TF2 channel devotes Sunday morning to programmes covering all the major faiths. The annual fete day tomorrow always starts with an open air mass. Every so often you will see a news item where someone wants a religious symbol removed from a building even if it has been there for a hundred years without causing offence. Usually ignored. The government takes a very strong line on protecting places of worship, and certainly as the Catholic churches are owned by the communes they have reason to do so. If you do see a Catholic mass on TV it is clear that it attracts far more people across the age groups than you might see in the COE. Very much a case of allowing people to make the choice of what they wish to do or believe.

Teenage granddaughters came over to watch the cycle race. During a lull I showed off some of my dance moves. They suggested that I didn't go to the disco tonight. I wonder why? :emoticon-0101-sadsm John Travolta never had this problem.

Came home from a most excellent evening out in The Smoke to find a letter from my building society telling me that they're hiking their overdraft rates from 18.9% to 39.8%.. And that puts me on a par with those who do not .even try to manage their money. I'm so annoyed I can't actually sleep. I have more savings than debts so when you f****g thieves put my ISA / Savings Account interest payments up >20% then you'll keep my business, in the mean time I will be transferring my banking elsewhere. Thieves, I say,. Thieves.

Morning all. Cloudy with occasional showers for this morning they say. So far no showers. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Just ejected a small mouse that couldn't resist the smell of chocolate. It was lured into a live trap with chocolate coated currents, and being a French mouse anything chocolate is very popular. It has been released and was last seen bounding full speed across the field away from us. I hope that like you it has an enjoyable day. :emoticon-0100-smile

Morning all. A late night yesterday as it was the annual fete. Once again our tiny commune was descend on by people in their thousands. The star attraction this year was a rocker from the 80s who I had never heard of, but is still very much in demand despite being in his middle 60s. Seems he not only is a singer songwriter, but also an author and TV host. His hour long performance showed me why French rockers from that era never achieved much fame outside the country. All his songs sounded the same, and he didn't really manage to connect with the people. Still he was followed by the amazing firework display that every year gets better. It stayed warm and dry throughout the day and night, and long after I was tucked up in bed cars were coming past the house leaving behind the dodgems, the bars and hot dogs, and the clearing up for the hundred plus volunteers. Enjoy whatever is in your plans for the day. <ok>

Morning all. Overcast but mild and dry. We still have plenty of people in the village, and the lane looks a bit like a car lot there are so many here. We have water restrictions in place now, which means that car washing is banned, you cannot top up your swimming pool, and watering your plants between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm is also a no no. We had a long dry spell last year, and you have to wonder if this is a sign of future years.
