I think the next ten days marks the end of Bury. Very sad. Hopefully someone with a bigger heart than wallet steps forward.
****ing awful mate. Mental that historic football clubs can go bust for about ten million or so and an average-decent defender went for £80m a week or so ago. Disgusting really.
Feel shamed for the sport I love. Loved, that maybe more appropriate. I'm starting to not recognise it anymore. First time I've said that.
At the risk of making an unpopular comment, it was the inauguration of the Premier League, and thereafter wall-to-wall televised subscription football which made this lopsided situation amongst the leagues. Unfortunately, the genie is now out of the bottle, but even so, if the world abandoned their TV football subscriptions, footballers salaries would return to something realistic, and football clubs further down the pyramid would be able to exist in a world they could afford. There would be major disruption, no doubt. Right now, the Premier League hoovers up pretty much all the money. You might think the clubs within the PL deserve it, but in truth, TV has created such a focus that a person from Bury would possibly rather follow a football club from another end of the country. How is that the right thing in a game popularised by the working class, noted for following their local clubs? Of course, this is the modern lopsided world, but why should 72 clubs, plus non-league clubs just exist to feed 20 others? Don't those 72 plus others count for just as much? Of course they do. To my mind it is about time the Premier League started to realise its responsibility and at least fund the EFL to make sure no lower league club goes out of business, provided they stay within easy-to-live-by constraints.
But just think of how great a win would be? Harry was our manager for our last win and they've beat us 4-1 twice since then. It's only fair that we get a cup tie with a two tier advantage like they did imo
Not sure that's how I'd describe it, I think it'd be utter carnage. Luckily it's never going to happen.
Yes, I was only kidding on the 'fun' aspect. We'd have to consider playing it behind closed doors. That might even be sensible. Or minimum tickets to either club.
