been not bad...not much in it, Madrid have had a few chances and Celtic not created too much ...until 2nd goal Celtic looked liek getting back into it but 2nd has killed it

Very open, end to end. Celtic have actually played quite well. Shot ourselves in the foot again losing a poorly defended early goal.

Celtic can take a lot of confidence from the way we've played. Considering one of their players cost more than our entire team we've not done too badly.

Not too bad Gerard. I kinda figure we'll get our usual 3-0, but they have been pretty good. Maybe not giving Hooper enough support, but there is a lot to be pleased about.

I hope we get a "road" goal.

Ach well, not as bad as I feared. Worried we might have lost by 3 or 4 but 2-0 away to the group favourites isn't too bad.

Played well for stretches of the match. A lot of positives to take from the game. More European experience for what is a young team. Plus points were Ledley, Ki, Kayal and Forrest. Big Forster pulled off a couple of cracking saves as well.

Overall, always disappointing to lose but not the pumping some were predicting and we played not too badly.

Thought on the whole we played well , Ki and Kayal were good , Wilson(mark) poor , Forrest never helped him defensively. Hooper not good enough for the striker job upfront himself.Pity the other game didn't finish a draw

Had this one down as a dead cert for our standard 3-0 gubbing away in europe.

Is it mildly depressing that a 2-0 defeat is regarded as 'good'? <laugh>

We kept the ball well , but we are so naive giving away silly cheap goals not just tonight but in all away European games .You have to honest Madrid have some class players but we have some class players kayal and Ki , who would fit into any team. loovens , mulgrew Ledley and Wilson (kelvin) all played well and the goalie had a couple of cracking saves at the end

Losing another early goal something that has to now be fixed, it's embarrassing. Other than that OK, we didn't give many chances away although didn't create much either Sammy had a very good game and Ki until they put a man on him was very good in the second half.

That the toughest game I expect and we've got things to work on but some real lessions that prove useful learned.

    Like not losing early goals.

HH67 - 'Naive' is certainly the word I would use for the defending. As for zonal defending - that's another debate entirely. (I tend to think it's like an idiot's guide to defending - to be used when one can't trust the defenders to use their intelligence in man-for-man marking, but there you go - that's just my opinion LOL!!) I thought we did reasonably well in possession of the ball but that we didn't 'press' it enough and stood off opposing players too much when we weren't in possession (apart from Beram Kayal who seemed to chase down everything) which I found generally disheartening to watch. Of course, lack of experience in these games is always going to make things harder so it's good to get the opportunity to gain some and hopefully that will add to the confidence factor.

By the way - what did you think of the play in celebration of the life of Johnny Thompson and how was it done (eg did they use a lot of 'artistic licence' or stick to the facts of what was actually known about him)?

Ki was back to his best until they man marked him, Hooper did ok held the line well, positionally was always near the ball - just got isolated far too easily. In hindsight maybe Forrest & Samaras should have bombed on every chance as we had Commons & Bangura on the bench to replace them.

Samaras & Forrest did a good shift though, didn't get the ball to them early enough to give them many one on ones with the fullbacks though.

Kayal & Ledley coped well with their midfield & thought we bossed the second half till their goal.

Just so ****ing annoying that we lost an early goal to a set piece <grr> Chasing the game from then on & they caught us out.
