The loan fee for Nketiah is more than £2million and the club will also pay his £35,000-a-week Gunners salary for the 2018-19 campaign.
That's a big investment on potential, especially as we'd be improving him for the Arse. The Inter kid at £8m would have been better long tern business, as I said earlier, it's all short term atm.
Villa did all short term deals last season and worked out ok for them so wouldn’t worry too much about that
Tyrone Mings the Jan loan got them promoted, cost them £26 million to sign him this summer, but money we'll spent I'm sure they would say.
I feel like that about Kent too Gessa, but I understand why we've gone with Nketiah - this year it's a short-term punt with no safety net, because if we don't come good Bielsa will be gone, Phillips will be gone and Nketiah will be gone. Having said that, I feel we're better placed to actually get over the line that anytime since 2004, not only because of Bielsa and the increased firepower which Costa and Nketiah bring, but because by this year we've generated our own squad depth in-house by getting the youngsters to a level where we can rely on them when we need to. A short-term success is all we need. MOT.
I must say that the best addition we have made this year is Bouguzs I can see this lad being the star of the show this Would have liked to loan Moyes from Town
Afternoon all. I see Nketiah as someone to get us promoted. If he was good enough to play in the Prem now we wouldn't be able to loan him and couldn't afford to buy him. Proven Championship strikers don't always step up so we might be looking elsewhere if we get the job done anyway. If Ryan Kent was worth it some team would have bought him this Summer. At least he plays in England, the problem with the Italian lad is that the Championship would be a shock for him at the start. The reason the Arse loaned him to us is that they want him to improve but so do we. If Bielsa makes him into this year's Pukki then great. I hope him being here helps some of our U23s but I'd love it if he couldn't get a game because Bamford, Edmondson or Kun is scoring for fun. There will be ups and downs but I'm really looking forward to it this year. Most important stat for me is that we 'only' had 59% possession against BC and 4 shots on target but scored 3 goals. That is so much better than last year
When you look at the transfers of our competitors, I have to say we've had a fantastic transfer window. Only one I disagreed with was Jansson. In life, not everybody is going to get along. I dare say we work with some people we don't like, but we have to get on with it.
Cos we sold him to the first club to show any interest especially when we have seen other Championship players sell for over 20m. I'm not suggesting we'd get close to that but I am saying we should have got twice as much as the 4m we got. Between 3 weeks ago and yesterday tea time, we would have been in receipt of at least one offer of 8m plus.
Patrick Bamford is 2nd favourite at 10/1 to be the Championship's leading scorer by the end of the season. Only Fulham's Metrovic is shorter odds at 7/1. Eddie is 20/1
