Ok cheers for confirming it mate, he is a hard guy and I hope he will overcome the odds and get better.
I hope the brain damage situation is just a weak possibility.
He is a fantastic driver and deserves to get better soon.

Sadly I thought he was in for a title shot this year.

Get better soon Kubica.

Everythings so horribly unclear. the injuries reported seem to range from fractured arm to Arm amputation an brain damage.

I'm hating hearing this news... this driver has a much-loved personality and I hope it's only a few fractures.

You might've at least waited a post or two before doing exactly what you'd just told the rest of us off for doing. <doh>

This isn't a dig at you mate because you've just repeated what you've heard elsewhere, but why do sickos make up things like this? His injuries are to his arm, hand and leg. Now corrected me if I'm wrong but the brain isn't located in any of these areas. Renault have also confirmed he remained conscious throughout so I think it's safe to say he hasn't suffered brain damage. And the hospital have ruled OUT amputation, but they are concerned about the injuries to it and the blood flow so there could be long term damage.

Doesn't look good for him but I really hope he pulls through.

Good luck to him and lets hope he has a speedy recovery. To be honest, being concious doesn't rule out brain damage - remember Richard Hammonds accident? I expect he's being seen to by the best surgeons available, and they'll do their best. Fingers crossed its enough to get him fit enough to race again, however long it takes him.

This is awful for both Robert and F1. I hope that he gets better, as he should have been in the running for the WDC, it's been a long time coming. My prayers are with him.

I wish him a speedy recovery too, as I really feel for the lad. Should he have been rallying this close to the season opener? well probably not, but unlike Darren Health on twitter, Im not going to call him everything and anything.

I wish him well, and hope we see him sooner rather than later, just as long as he doesnt rush himself back to the cockpit. Some reports suggesting that he may not return, as he apparently smashed the same hand pretty badly in 2003, and it never returned to full strength.

Wishing you a speedy and full recovery Robert; Lets wait to hear the truth before responding to all this negative hearsay going around.

Its a disgrace if anybody is calling him out for doing what he loves, he's a racing driver ffs. He has to keep himself charged up during the close season!<grr> Some people are so ignorant.

Just as I created this thread I went out for the rest of the day, so I never got a chance to wish Robert a speedy recovery. A great person, great driver with a lot of talent. I hope this injury isn't as severe as some predict. Good to see everyone wishing him well, F1 drivers via twitter, Alonso visiting him in hospital, etc. We all wish him a full and speedy recovery.

As for Darren Heath's comments on twitter: "Is driving #F1 not enough for #Kubica? Utterly irresponsible to crash in a club rally. Can't see #Alonso, #Vettel, #Hamilton being so stupid." - That's just ****ed up!

There you have it. And I agree, racing is what he does, and if he chooses to do something which Lotus/Proton/Renault/Lada (not sure on the identity of this team yet!) haven't prohibited, then thats neither here nor there.

Seen some of the images recently, Armco through the side of the car, could have been much much worse for the lad. Very lucky escape. Quite a bit of blood beneath the car mind, so I'm not surprised the injuries are what is stated!

"The situation of the hand was clearly serious, it was nearly amputated and we’ve reconstructed completely, first recomponing the fracture and then working on muscles and nervous tissue. The operation has been successful, i don’t want to say too much but we’re quite confident. Kubica should get back the total functionality of the hand for his vital functions and maybe his driving profession. However, it will need some time, perhaps a whole year of rehabilitation. By the way, everything’s been good.”

A quote from Dr. Rossello apparently.
