as some on here know I have a disabled lad. Who requires regular hospital treatments etc. all this is of course free on the NHS. Now we take him to the hospital, and do all the things such as nappy changes, feeding etc and even bring him home at night and return the next morning. Initially this was to make life easier for ourselves (hate hospital stays). The staff are brilliant and are like friends now. Other kids on the ward are left alone by parents, with 1 hour visits. ! lad had no visitors for 2 days. Yet these parents complain about the 'lack of care' and the 'NHS is crap' Is this what the NHS was for? or was it for the basics and should the govt tell people to take some responsibility?
Your situation is what the NHS was made for but others abuse the system and they get free treatment when they are not entitled to it. These are the people the Government need to crack down on it. As much as we would like it, free medical care for everyone just isn't feasible.
captain I agree to a large extent, but think its more than that, I think the institutions offer too much at times For example my lad started school. all the agencies involved (due to his needs) put up barriers. I simply made an appointment with the school and spoke to the head. I laid my cards on the table she did likewise. in the end I went over everybodies head and me and the mrs did a lot ourselves. My view is that the schools job is basically to teach my kids to read and write, not some of the other shoite people and agencies expect Its like hanging yourself because the rope is free.
We as a nation expect too much of everyone from our local shop to our politicians. I don't know what is to blame for this but we would be a lot happier as a nation if we would only lower our expectations.
is it we who have raised the expectations though? I mean ask a kid what a frog says and the answer will be ribbit. although this is a hollywood invention has the government raised our expectations, or institutions like the NHS and now they cant cope. As i have mentioned i worked in regeneration, and to be honest i actually felt sorry for what people when the were fed bullshit. promised the earth but then chastised for complaining when it wasnt delivered.
I think it is because we are promised all sorts of things by politicians and others and we expect them to deliver on their promises and get pissed off when they don't deliver. The only thing I expect from anyone is that they keep their promises because that is what I do, my word is concrete.
Sadly we live in a society where too many people are selfish. They expect everything from everyone ( and without payment if possible ) and give nothing in return.
What I hate about the majority of people is that they always ask 'what is the government going to do for me?' and not 'what am I going to do for myself?'. I say if you want something go out and make it happen instead of waiting for someone to give it to you.
