I'm fuming, to be honest. Levy's done a lot of things right, but he's seriously dropped the ball while sorting out the stadium. We've had three failed windows, the U23s have gone to pot and our loans are all poor choices. If the whole thing was too much for him, which is probably the case, then he should've brought someone in.
It’s the same every year. Problem is, we’re a top premier league club and now a champions league finalist too. Clubs in Europe know how wealthy the Prem is and that we must have made a lot of money from the CL, and up goes the price. Levy refuses to pay and round in circles we go. Even given all that it would be criminal stupidity in my opinion not to sign a back up for Eriksen. If we don’t and Real come knocking before 30/8 we’re ****ed. Imo, if you know what you need just buy it. Maguire isn’t worth £80 mill, but he probably is to Utd because he’s exactly what they need.
All summer to make the signings we needed. Once again it’s going to be left to deadline day, but not only that, we’ve got Eriksen’s situation hanging around like a bad smell. I have no idea how we let it get this bad this close to the deadline. Levy isn’t getting out of this one. Miracles are needed in the next 48 hours, and it’s not happening. A Moutinho/Damiao “we tried” special on Thursday at 4pm, with a club statement to the fans on Friday morning saying how difficult the market was, and how he wishes Mauricio and the team the best of luck for the season.
That's going to be a marvellous way to guarantee a terrible atmosphere at the first game on Saturday evening, when everyone's had a few.
No worries...I am going so me and my sunny disposition will cheer them up... Cmon everyone no ones joined my lord cumbayar no ones joined my lord cumbayar
On a revisit elsewhere ... https://www.not606.com/threads/the-way-forward-for-2019-20.374173/page-5#post-12816154 So Lo Celso should have been ditched 4 weeks ago, and the alternatives moved to the top of the list.
A lot of talk on social media this eve about Eriksen to United. Got a nasty feeling this is gonna happen, and we’ll fail to strengthen appropriately. Stinks of Frazier Campbell.
Really don't think we will go for anyone else this window, definitely not a big buy like Eriksen would be (unless we sell Pogba tomorrow )
This is such a good point. It is amazing to think that on May 28th we submitted a £53m bid for him. By all accounts, our current offer isn't much higher than that at all - certainly not enough to make Betis sit up and pay attention. Why on earth has it taken close to 6 weeks to not budge an inch from square one?? Was Fernandes always Plan B? If so why did we only move for him last week? If he wasn't Plan B, who was? It is suicidal to put all your eggs in one basket when you're a PL club and every club in the world is hoping to milk you of all the gravy they can. Dithering. Fecking dithering. Same bloody story every window.
Because our owners are not really interested...they are playing the game. Get ready for the ‘we tried but...’ mantra. More telling and of major concern to me is Poch’s reaction to being asked about transfers last week...very telling. I won’t be surprised if this is his last season with us. There’s a reason he said he would probably have quit if we won the CL. It’s because he knows under this regime that would have been a miracle never to be repeated again because ENIC have no interest in building a team to challenge season in season out.
Really? You think Enic have no interest in reaching the top 4 and securing CL football? Explain to me how they will then make sufficient income to cover their investments if they are content to see Spurs finish mid table.
I hadn’t realised that the saga had been going on that long. If Lo Celso is what Poch has identified as Eriksen’s potential replacement, should he go, then ffs stop dicking around and get it done. As I put in my earlier post, he may not be worth what we have to pay to get him, but if Eriksen leaves and we have no replacement, then he’s priceless.
I haven’t once said they have no interest in top 4 and qualifying for CL...they certainly are interested in the £££. I said/say that they have no real desire of backing their manager to win these things..we are ok being the nearly men because thats enough to tick the financial requirements with a minimum layout ENIC/Levy are choking when it comes to building the team to win things. I can’t believe I still have to justify such a stance when the last few transfer windows have more than shown ENIC’s hand.
In fairness Spurf, he didn't say that. He said they have "no interest in building a team to challenge season in season out" which translates to me as prioritising titles over final league positions. In other words, ENIC want guaranteed CL football each year for the obvious financial rewards it brings but don't want to go and over commit on buying expensive players in the hope that we may win a trophy, which by all accounts doesn't affect the balance sheet in any way. You only have to look at where ENIC have spent money to see precisely where their priorities lie... 1) Training Ground - asset that will accrue value 2) Stadium - asset that will accrue value 3) Academy - will develop talent at minimal cost investment that will gain in value (to either sell on or play in the first team) Players are commodities that have a shelf life. That's why we always buy young and buy at the bottom of the market. We bring them in, hopefully improve them and then sell on for a profit. We're not interested in a 28-30 year old proven star who wants £350,000+ a week, with a transfer fee in excess of £75-100m. That's a liability that hurts the balance sheet and brings no guarantees. So unless we can balance the books by selling and having the right money in place to buy young, fresh talent - no one is coming in. But if we think the club is intent on buying proven, tier 1 talent to challenge for the PL; we are sorely mistaken. Poch will come to the same inevitable conclusion and will realise the club's ambitions no longer match his. This will be his last season at Spurs
I would think it's very difficult to judge how to do enough to get 4th without risking finishing 5th or lower. Even Levy is not that clever.
Fans have no interest in the financial implications of their desire to win everything and that's how you can sit here telling us who we should buy. The real world is a little more complicated. Having said that if we have no further signings and are still at risk of losing Eriksen then that will be a risky place to be for Spurs. Let's see what happens.
