Reports in the Italian and Polish media claim Robert Kubica has been injured in a rally accident in Italy. Kubica was taken to hospital following an accident in the Ronde di Andora rally. The extent of his injuries have not been confirmed but according to several reports he has injuries to his wrist. The Renault F1 driver was driving a Skoda Fabia in the event. A hand injury could affect his participation in testing at Jerez which is due to start on Thursday. Kubica̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s co-driver Jakub Gerber posted ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅI̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m OK̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâàon his Facebook page around an hour ago. http://www.genova24.it/2011/02/rally-di-andora-grave-incidente-per-robert-kubica-7671
Hopefully it's not as bad as initial reports suggest, I saw serious injuries reported without any mention of what they might be.
Fractured wrist and femur is being reported. That will have him out for the best part of the season if true. Senna in a Renault.
I Hope desperately he makes a full recovery. rumors it might end his carreer are heartbreaking. What happens in renault? Does Senna get the drive?
Senna is first in line yes. But I can't see Renault running with a Senna/Petrov lineup given the amount of work this team has done. That said they'd need to get a move on to get a more experienced driver ready.
Heidfeld or at a push Kimi. The news coming through though is starting to look more serious than we first thought so I think it's probably worth putting a hold on this talk for a couple of hours. LotusGP have issued an initial statement. Another is expected around 1pm.
Put yourself in Senna's Shoes through as the contracted 3rd driver it would annoy me to be overlooked in this situation. If reno wanted quality they never would have retained petrov. Get well soon Robert. thats what is important and this conversation should be had later.
They should give it to Grosjean, he was harshly dropped IMO, especially when you look at Alguersuari who also debuted mid-season and was awful, but really got his act together for his first full season. I'd be gutted if Kubica had to retire, he's one of the most talented drivers out there, just before I heard this news I'd been watching his on board lap at Monaco from this season. If he retires, he'd go down as one of the greatest drivers never to win a title alongside Sir Stirling Moss and Gilles Villeneuve. Please get well soon Robert.
Another point I wanted to make regarding Raikkonen, is that he won't want to come back as a stop gap. If Robert's out for the season (and heaven forbid it from being any longer than that) then Raikkonen might be a choice. But he wouldn't come back for half a dozen races if Kubica's pencilled in for a mid season return.
Why are people jumping to conclusions about who is going to replace him. The man has had a serious injury, give him some respect ffs. Raikkonen will not return. Heidfeld has long gone and the the next person in line is Senna.
