That's the asking price. He doesn't fit Sevilla's style of play, so could be subject to offers. If we agree a loan with a view to a buy based on performance and whether we stay up, we could afford it next season. Can see SW arranging something like that which could make all the difference this season.
The kind of defensive midfielder we need is bound to cost money; his job is to enable a team who normally set up 4:2:3:1 to convert to 4:1:4:1 / 4:1:1:3:1, which is basically how we played in the first half of last season when Tettey was fully fit and in peak form. As we saw then, having a genuine DM patrolling across in front of the back four, allows the best footballer we have in our squad, Moritz Leitner, to assume his proper place in the starting eleven. Without that dedicated defensive midfield cover, we have to revert to a job share arrangement and play two, in which role Trybull and McLean are the more effective. It would be hugely frustrating to have such a beautiful player as Leitner sitting on the bench when the stage is perfect for him.
Is 1om Euros really too much for us? It shouldn't be, wages however are a different kettle of fish. Bah!
New rumour: Chalobah on loan https://www.footballinsider247.com/...h-plot-late-raids-to-sign-watford-senior-ace/
Another rumour that would be excellent if we could pull it off, loan or permanent! http://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/995392962?-11057:808
Yes, but he wouldn't cost half of that and Id say a few mill on him on loan (perhaps with the option to buy, if we stay up) would be great business! Good passer, good in possession and solid in the tackle.
Brighton have signed French striker Neal Maupay for a reported £20m from Championship side Brentford. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48975141
Progress on Amadou from Sevilla apparently: https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/sevilla/2019/08/05/detalles-cesion-amadou/237003.html Suggests we've agreed to pay his €3m/yr wages, a loan fee, and the deal might include a purchase option. Ironing out the details. Suspect Norwich want to only have to buy if we stay up and he contributes, whilst Sevilla want something more concrete. That salary would be £53 k p/w, which sounds damn high for us.
Wouldn't be my first choice, but you'd imagine it would be a loan and we'd pay wages in line with our current structure. At 29 he's hardly washed up, but hasn't played a lot in the last two seasons. If his personality fits, he does offer Prem experience, but is he any better than Trybull? One freak season in the Prem (with Kante doing the heavy lifting in midfield) doesn't really speak to serious pedigree.
@BethnalYG News from Ipswich is the Dozzell to Norwich deal is done. Would be quite the story if true. Seems like a fairly reliable tweeter, usually? Can't find a source for this though.
Gary Cahill signed by Palace. If they sell Wan-Bissaka and Zaha, with Cahill and Ayew their only signings...I can't say I'd be convinced of their survival hopes.
From a very cautious ITK, has been saying we had DM targets for months: SexyBennett @SexyBennett1 The DM search is coming to an end. Was always priority and club was willing to wait, apparently. Couldn’t afford the targets outright, so pushing hard for a quality loan. Either Spanish. Or English
That does seem to fit with Amadou, as Sevilla have only just given up trying to sell him and are now willing to consider loan deals. With a new manager appointed two months ago, Amadou doesn't suit the new style of play. Presumably, SW and DF think he'll suit ours.
There's a french twitter account claiming a breakthrough in the Amadou deal, and that it should be announced in the next 48 hours...we shall see!
File this under too good to be true... Suggestions Rhodes and Weds cancelling contract and he may come here on a free... That's more like it
Just seen this from the same account: Amadou is one hell of a player. Love this to be true, seems a bit over our structure. BUT. Maybe this why we have been so tight with first team signings. Use the money to get in a BIG player in a Key area. I'm still sure Stuart will set up the deal and contract to leave us totally fine if the season ends in relegation.
You do all realise that if our total summer spend is > £20 million, we'll never be able to trust a word Webber says ever again
