Decent defender prone to the odd clanger. Easily our level so to speak but I can't say I'd pick him above Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett or Schar. He'd probably be ahead of Fernandez but not by much. I can't see why we'd go for him so I think bullshit. I'd much rather we focused on getting and right back and holding midfielder.
Another forward would be nice, but I'm not sure on our budgets. To buy a decent one you are talking big money. I'm not too worried they have to be like Rondon. I watched that Martinez again for Atlanta on Saturday night, he is definitely an option for us. His partnership with Almiron was telepathic. He is built more like Aguero, but Joelinton has some presence and physicality. I want to see a more modern mobile Newcastle side. Whether Bruce is the man to deliver that I'm not convinced but he has my support. One thing for sure, this current squad is not relegation standard so he has no excuses.
Sounds like bruce is happy with gayle ... could be worse , but I feel we need another option uptop .. id have carroll
I would on pay as play. He'll want a 5 yr contract somewhere to sit on his arse. I like him but he's finished. Same for Austin. This Joelinton is a proper grafter. He makes Rondon look extremely lazy. I am just not convinced its fair to expect him to go hell for leather for a full season. Gayle is decent enough back up but if you can bring in 15m-20m for him, I'd chop him and buy in an instant.
I admit joelington looks good, but its too soon to assume hes better at anything thsn rondon over a full season the the prem. Theres the pressures , the opposition , tactics and even the winter months that come into play... he might not settle in ...lots to overcome ... its a gamble. Rondon proved he could handle all that and not many can.
Gayle is a decent option but just nowhere near the player at this level that he is in the championship. I'm amazed no-one wants a 15m bid for him as he's a guaranteed shot at promotion. If he plays for us then I feel he's never majorly let us down and may at least keep up with some of our other forwards. A good back up.
Agree on Carroll. It's up to the player, if the money was sensible then he's a good option for whatever pitch time he may get. Feeling is he'll go to where the money is biggest in which case no fans will want him!
If he stays fit and focussed I reckon Gayle might work far better in this current set up than he did previously - lots of potential for good through balls from Almiron, team generally playing at pace etc which he didn't have previously However if someone does come in with a decent offer...…...
