I was confident a few weeks back of a decent window.
But there just isn’t time now. This stinks of the Damiao/Moutinho let downs. “We tried”.

I understand that there’s a massive game of poker being played at the moment. - not just between us and Betis/sporting Lisbon, but the whole market. Someone needs to start the domino effect, but no one wants to be the first one. Our problem is that it’s not just 1 player we’ve got our eyes on/need to purchase in this process. We’re playing a dangerous game where too much business (in’s and outs) needs to be done in whatever time period the domino effect ends up dictating. - that could be as little as 24 hours.
It just isn’t happening. We’re constantly told how complicated football transfers are, which is why there’s never any direct swap deals, because standard transfers are hard enough. - to try and complete 4 or 5 ins/outs before 5pm Thursday? Absolutely no chance.

Let's be clear here, VDV is not even remotely comparable to the
NEW AM saga. He was not a primary transfer target, nor were we
in terms with Madrid for him over most of the transfer window.

Primary targets (such as NDombele) IMHO are supposed to get done
    quickly and early.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me now.
I am so p*ssed me off due to the above that even signing NEW AM next week
is unlikely to quell my anger for some time.

On the basis that you have no idea what, if any negotiations are taking place I don't understand how you can be so certain either way. A medical and a signing takes hours not days it's getting to that point that takes the time and that's what we know nothing about.

In fairness mate, Lloris was pretty much a done deal in the media before deadline day. It was only some last minute “moving of the goalposts” that delayed the announcement until deadline day.
And we knew Aurier was coming way before. It was the work permit that held it up.

My point is that we don’t seem anywhere near as close with our current targets with 4 days to go, as we were with Lloris or Aurier.

Simple fact is that consistent CL football, and especially this last season’s run, have helped us to get to where we are now.

Losing that, which we really should have for this season if the Goons hadn’t ****ed up every chance we gave them, would put a large dent in our income.

But that’s what’s in danger of happening. Goons have strengthened, Utd have shored up their creaky defense, and Pool and City are already very strong. If we don’t keep up, we’ll eventually lose that CL football. And not just for one season either.

We’ve supposedly verbally agreed contracts with GLC and Sess so I’d say they’re in a similar boat to Hugo. All that needs sorting is a fee with their club and then the medical takes a couple hours.

Sissoko was another deadline day signing btw. Initially looked like he’d be joining Everton before stole him at the last minute.

True spurf, but usually by now we’ve seen something in the media that suggests the deal/s are all but done, and we’re sat here wondering why the announcement is taking so long.
The general feeling at the moment is that we’re not close on any of the deals.

I know we can’t trust the media word for word, (to say the least), but by now someone usually knows something/the deals are reported to be further down the line. No one is reporting that.

I’m not disagreeing that we’ll be able to pull off a deadline day deal, even if it’s a shocker that’s completely out of left field.
I just think 3 or 4 of them, plus others departing to bring in necessary funds is a lot to pull off in 24-48 hours.

Sure. So my questions are :

    1. How many days since Spurs first approached Betis, would you say have been
spent to date on "sorting a fee" ??

    2. Do you believe that it should have taken that many days ??

Most of what the media reports is garbage anyway Roo, and surely after the frustrations of previous windows the shine of trying to follow 'negotiations' has become well worn. I watch people on here winding themselves up and then ending up feeling disappointed at the start of a new season. A time when instead you should be looking forward to that new season. I'd love a Ferrari but I am not going to get one so I don't waste my time wishing.
I will be severely disappointed if we were to lose Pochettino because of all of this stuff but it hasn't happened yet so I still at the moment look forward to the new season.
The perils of following a football team eh! especially Spurs <laugh>

I think we already have most of the funds for our primary targets so outgoings won’t make too much of a difference. Sess and GLC (or Bruno) will cost circa £75m-£80m combined and I roughly guessed we’d have around £100m to spend, we’ve spent about £65m on Tanguy and Clarke whilst we’ve gotten about £30m for Janssen and Tripps. It’s just about paying what we feel is right for the players and getting their clubs to agree to our terms, it may end in us spending more than we want but I think Sess and GLC/ Bruno will be here once the deadline’s passed.

It depends on what we felt we were willing to pay. Betis supposedly wanted £75m which in my opinion is far too much and I think so did the club. Rumours that they’re now willing to lower that figure suggests they’re coming around or coming closer to the figure we’re willing to pay. We know Betis need to sell too so I think Levy is playing a game of poker which I think will pay off. It would’ve been preferable getting him in sooner but as long as we do sign him (or Bruno) that’s what’s most important.

Was it 1954,Spurs beat Arsenal to sign D.Blanchflower? T.Whittaker (Arsenal) was invited into the Villa's chairman's front room while A.Rowe (Spurs) was invited into the chairman's kitchen. Arsenal would only pay 28,000 while Spurs paid 30,000. Spurs got their man.
My point is....if you want your man,go for him and stop sodding about!!!!!

Barca have signed Junior Firpo for most of what Betis spent on Nabil Fekir.

They don't need to sell anymore. They did, two weeks ago. But not now.

This evening I must confess to having my negative head on.

To this point I have tried to be positive, but I am a little perplexed tonight by the news that the man who should be busting a gut to get at least 2 more deals over the line in the next 4 days is currently in Florida! Not sure there are many players from the’ Sunshine State’ that are currently on our shopping list.

Whilst I am sure that he employs people to conduct talks with clubs, players and agents being in the USA, when the window is closing in Europe doesn’t make any sense to me.

I like many here, will be seriously pissed off if the squad has not been added to by 1700 on Thursday.

If no one arrives we are significantly weaker than we were 12 months ago in my opinion. And there could still be departures that will make us weaker still!

Could be a very long hard season ahead, we look like going into the opening weekend with a squad that looks short of options in several key areas.

I hope I am wrong, but I think we are very short of the required quality at RB, need more creative options in midfield and really need options up front to prevent another season of running our throroughbred CF into the ground again.

As we keep saying, it’s the hope that kills you.

I’ve prepared myself for a window like most we’ve seen in the last 2-3 years. I couldn’t see any reason why things would change. It’s just the way we do things. N’dombele was a big surprise, especially being signed so early on. But we’ve resorted back to old ways.
If we don’t bring anyone of note in over the course of the next few days and/or Eriksen leaves, I won’t be at all surprised.

Seriously people ... this is like the time I watched an episode of Red Dwarf where Lister, Kryten and the Cat had to go to a world consisting solely of Arnold Rimmers...it was a world full of loathsome, backstabbing, cowardly, twofaced, jealously and hatefulness (all the characteristics of Rimmer).

This thread reads like I have woken up on a world totally populated by RCL clones and, I got to be honest, it's a scary place <yikes>

I think this lot care so much for their club (fans I mean!) RCL. I think they are peed off by the lack of response by those in charged. They seem to be doing an Ericson. Not particularly bothered!
