Early team news and its good... Stef Jo as expected is fit but even better Alfie Mawson has trained this week and appears fit! I’m hopeful for a good result but the following three things are nagging away at me..... 1. Away to a promoted team opening day is the worse time to play them. 2. Super Cauley is guaranteed to score. 3. I found out today Barnsley did not lose a home game all last season.
We need to score first then we will be fine. Looking forward to this greatly, BUT FFC TV seems not to want subscriptions yet, anyone else found this? I can't enjoy Saturday without Gentleman Jim!
Good to see you all keeping the forum going through the break. I'm off in the morning up to Barnsley and really looking forward to it. New ground for me. Will be delighted with a win but first game of the season as you say is not the best time to play them. Would be good if we could get off to a good start. Will update when I'm back ! PS - Is there any highlights shows of the Championship now. I think the C4 show is no longer.
The start of the long slog that is the championship where nothing should be taken for granted. Your man cottager still seems absent. Any news on his whereabouts?
No news I'm afraid to say, he hasn't replied to a private message either. Quiet concerning really, he was the backbone to our board and is being sorely missed.
Indeed. He started a lot of your posts and seemed to collate a lot of relevant information. Hope eveything is ok with him.
Patchy performance from the team yesterday. Barnsley wanted it more and deserved their win. We came close a few times but really it was not good enough. Mitro and Cairney were well guarded throughout the game and we could not get a flow going. We were slow, backward passing and lost the ball far too easily. On the positives side Knock looked very good when he came on.
Not a good start for either of us. Your summary could have been written about our game substituting Wigan for Barnsley and substituting our players names. Hey ho, 1 down, 45 to go.
It's a case of not coming out the starting blocks ready to fight to get the ball. We fell into the trap of wanting to play tippy tappy football, but didn't get the chance to settle as Barnsley were up for it and in our faces from the off. I too worry about Cottager58 as it's not the same without his input. I'm fearing the worse but have no way of knowing, but hoping it's not as serious and that he'll return when able.
I listened to the game with GJ and had a stream going but decided it sounded more hopeful than it did visually, so just listened to the 2nd half only. Have also watched the extended highlights on FFCtv. Yes we were not up for it first half but made a better fist of it in the second. We had some chances but to be fair Barnsley defended and blocked very well, something we need to be achieving very soon. I think the main problem is our defending in midfield and with 3 up front it could be 1 too many as we never got to the second ball where needed. 1 game down but 45 and 135pts remain to be won, perhaps this game is the kick in the pants needed. A few new players are needed too, Arter sounds a possibility and may help to solve the midfield problem we had yesterday.
